John's POV
After the entire situation with Sera's kidnapping ended, things were finally starting to get back to normal, and there were only a few instances where we brought it up again.
Or at least, that's what I thought would happen.
A few days after Sera got out of the warehouse, she suddenly asked me a question.
"Hey, John. Are you sure you've never seen your mother's face before?" She inquired.
It was so random I was surprised.
When was the last time I talked about my mother again? At least with Sera?
I wanted to ask her a question back, too. I wanted to ask her why she brought it up since it seemed so odd for her to mention it now, but instead, I shut my mouth and answered hers.
"Well, I'm pretty sure." I replied. "I don't think I've ever even seen her in person before, so I have no doubts in my mind that I've had a full gaze at her appearance."
"Really?" She raised a brow. "Maybe you should think a bit harder then."
I shrugged. "If you say so, I guess I could."
I closed my burnt golden eyes and tried to clear my head of any unnecessary things that could interfere with the image I wanted to form of my mother. However, the harder I tried to piece things together, the more difficult it became to think clearly.
Eventually, I got to nothing.
No image at all.
"Hmm, yep. Nope. Haven't seen her." I simply responded to the magenta-haired girl.
"Positive?" She crossed her arms and looked down at her lap in thought. "How about you try-?"
"Hey, Sera." I interrupted. "Are you okay?"
"Huh?" She looked up and turned to look at me. "I mean, why wouldn't I be?"
"It's just... I feel like you've been getting more distant and colder since that day. No offense, but I have to admit that your behavior has gotten a bit stranger." I tried to explain.
"It has?" Sera looked confused.
"Well, I don't think that it's too bad right now, but I'm just worried for you. That's all." I told her as I remembered something else. "By the way, you never told me what happened the other day. What did you want to tell me before Blyke wanted you in the car?"
Her head turned away for a moment, and I had a perplexed expression on my face.
What was it, I wonder?
"Alright, John. You got me." She sighed, turning her head back to me. "It's important, and I hope it doesn't shock you too much, but I know it probably will."
"I guess I'll be the judge of that." I commented, nodding to let her continue.
She took a deep breath in, then exhaled.
"It's about your mother."
Mom?
"That's why I asked you about that question." Sera admitted. "Because the person who kidnapped me, she... she's your mother."
What?!
"B-But...how?!" I exclaimed. "How can that be possible? Sera, are you certain? Are you certain that she's my mom? Did she admit it herself? I have to know if you're right!"
