WE HAVE FINALLY LANDED IN TEXAS. Dallas, Texas to be exact. I've been to a good amount of places but the south isn't one of them.
Miguel surprised me with two tickets to his home town for spring break and I was over the top excited. He's dying for me to meet his family. At first I told him that I couldn't just leave Alice like that but she assured me that she was okay with my mom. Plus now she's dating Kai and of course he will keep her more than occupied back home.
The idea of meeting his family brings me joy and happiness. I'm a little nervous but his mom seems so nice and well I've already communicated with his sister and I know she's nice.
My moms birthday weekend was actually a great success. My mom loved Miguel and I'm so thankful that even my dad liked him. They got along so well and it was a great weight off my chest. He seemed to fit quite nicely. He even got to karaoke with my aunt Olivia.
"Are you sure they're not gonna totally hate me for not speaking Spanish?" I turn and ask Miguel. He laughs and shakes his head.
"Baby, you're a work in progress. Your Spanish is actually not bad. The important thing is that you're willing to try and actually want to learn. But even then they wouldn't hate you." And I relax back in my seat.
When the plane finally comes to a stop we wait only a few minutes before we're all able to stand from our seats so we can exit.
If there is one thing I know about the south is how hot and humid it gets. The closest I've been to here is Virginia Beach. It was very beautiful and I had a great time but I was about thirteen then. It's been a few years.
Heading towards the luggage area we hear Miguel's name being shouted. Both of us twist our heads in surprise. Two men are waving our way, holding up a sign that says Cruz on it.
Miguel chuckles. "That's my dad and my brother." He informs me. My stomach tightens. I thought they were going to rent a car for Miguel and we would just pick it up here and drive to his house. "What are y'all doing here?" Miguel asks with a smile on his face. I can tell he's much more happier for them to have picked us up.
"You know your mom son." His dad answers, pulling Miguel into a tight hug. The resemblance between all three of these men is almost unreal. All for of them have the exact same shade of hazel eyes and the intense dimples.
"She insisted dad came for y'all. I snook out and tagged long with dad." His brother chimes in.
Miguel places his hand on the small of my back. "V, this is Mase my brother and my dad Manuel." He introduces me. Instantly I reach out my hand to greet them.
"Hi." I smile and they both shake my hand one at a time.
"It's great to meet you dear. I know the girls back home are dying to meet you." His dad says.
