kang taehyun was a lost soul.

he always felt like something was not present in his life. he was like he wasn't complete, like something, or someone, was not there, not with him.

he had experienced the harsh, cold reality of life at such a young age, and thinking that he had to grow up despite how young he was.

---

his father had worked in the military, and had died when he had protected korea from the last atomic bomb the enemy had to offer. others were injured, yes, but taehyun's father was the only one that had died.

he had sacrificed his life for the pride of korea and the safety of others, just before they could fall into the hands of the land of the rising sun and what used to be part of their own flesh and bloodline (japan and north korea - no offence to japanese and north korean moas out there). when the other forces had seen how a normal soldier could risk his life and take their nuclear bomb out, they immediately backed away, petrified of what their alleged enemy could do.

however, taehyun's father was an evil man. his blood ran black. he had done it all for the fame, it was the little game that he used to trick the whole nation of korea. he also had anger management issues and that is where taehyun's own outbursts originate from.

he showed nothing but abuse to taehyun's mother, who protected the young juvenile whenever she could. at other times, taehyun unfortunately fell victim to his violence and once a glass bottle came in contact with him quite hard, knocking him out.

the whole nation was shocked and overjoyed at the news the war had brung. the battle was now over; they could live their everyday lives again. many, however, became despondent at the news of taehyun's father's death. everyone honoured the man, banners of him being put up across the country.

the fact of his father's passing was unknown to the little boy and his mother waiting at home for the man of the family to come back. a few weeks after the war had ended, taehyun's mother had become worried. the man that had abused her whole marriage relationship, she was worried for. the whole nation was coloured in black, the cities were deserted and not bustling like usual.

korea was in mourning.

she then took a terrible risk. some news that would shock her forever. putting on a wintry feathered coat and a purple scarf, she left taehyun at home, and went over to the local post office, to maybe get some news on her husband.

when she arrived, she was shocked from what she saw. the office was decked in black and the silence was deafening. the only other living being was the salesman who stood by the door, his paper boy cap drooping down, like his sour mood.

she asked what had happened after the war, a little afraid to ask directly. but what the man answered with broke her beyond repair.

"i'm sorry, but he's dead ma'am."

her mind immediately became tangled, not processing the fact that her husband, her child's father was dead. her body almost immediately shut down on her. she went into idiopathic anaphylactic shock, meaning that a sudden heart attack/cardiac arrest had taken place. the salesman instantly rushed her to the hospital but her vitals were dropping rapidly and she died before she could enter the gates of the hospital.

with deceased parents, both of them gone within a month of each other, and their deaths still not known to little taehyun, he waited patiently for his mother to return but she never walked through that small door into their run down house.

he had slept through the day and was slowly but surely getting impatient as time went by. he knew what he wants to do but his body answered for him. he waddled across the streets, nothing but a pair of ripped trousers, a shrunken t-shirt and a thin fleece on, he aimed towards the hospital; he could sense one of his parents were there.

he entered through the back, where he saw the most terrifying thing that any child would not like to see.

his mother was on the floor, dead, and thw doctors, about six of them running around to fetch equipment to kickstart her pulse. a pool of blood was below her, painting her in red.

he was speechless, he couldn't believe what he had just seen, and heard as well:

"we can't treat her any longer, her body won't restart"

"such a shame, she was such a kind soul, you can see how much she loved her husband as well"

"a nice couple gone, even within one month of each other"

his short legs and bare feet carried him as he could manage, he couldn't stay anywhere near the hospital, he was sick of it. of the hospital. it's also how he developed his nosocomephobia, which is a fear of hospitals.

the image was forever etched in his memory: the body of his dead mother and doctors and nurses bathed in her bodily contents.

this is how taehyun found out how he was an orphan at such a young age. you are wondering, 'how does he know what an orphan is?'

his mother was one of great discipline and never hid the world's secrets from him, even at his young age. she knew when to spoil her child and when to teach him. she wanted him to be aware of the environment around him, to prepare him so she would regret when she had to let him go.

looks like that wouldn't turn out after all.

---

his mind was displaced, he was never fully present in whatever he had to do. the void of his soul that was never complete, that ached to be complete. his heart cried within him begging to do something, for his dying heart to have rest.

he was scared he was going to turn out like his mother because of love.
