"Haven't you got a key?" Jin asked Namjoon as he bashed on his door.
"No?"
"He's a cop, there has to be a spare key somewhere."
"What does that mean?"
"It means whatever you want it to, Joon." Jin stood in the hallway, scanning the area that was quite bare. There were only two apartments to each level and as lovely as the decor was, it was plain.
He had an idea as he looked around and started lifting the paintings off the walls around the front door, Namjoon with his phone pressed to his ear, watching his boyfriend.
"Ha! See? The cop thing." he said, holding a key up after removing it from inside the frame at the back of a painting.
"I don't understand how it's a cop thing but okay."
"Because cops think deeply, he's up high, very few visitors up here unless they are actually visiting him so he would think it's safer to leave a key but he wouldn't want it to be somewhere obvious."
"You watch too much tv or you read too much crime fiction."
"You don't have a spare key hidden?"
"No, I'm on the ground floor, it isn't safe."
It was the first time that Jin felt he could smile at his boyfriend's words, the light hearted moment welcomed. They entered the apartment, hands feeling along the walls for light switches in the darkness. Namjoon raced into the rooms and his heart was hammering in his chest when Jungkook was nowhere to be found.
"This is bad. Can you call Vante? I mean, if he could answer then he would, right?"
"Yeah, I'll call him."
When his phone went to voicemail, Jin shook his head and Namjoon started pacing. The Commissioner had spoken to someone who had spoken to someone else and everyone was in agreement that they were taking the whole thing down in the next twelve hours. The fact that they knew where all the top men were right now was too good an opportunity to pass up and they needed to act fast.
Namjoon didn't know how many others were involved but the Commissioner had reassured him that his intel had confirmed what Namjoon had told them. The first step was to let the police and narcotics team into Teal's office at Starlings so they could gather evidence. While Blue and his men were busy at Magpies, they could get in, take all the evidence they needed and get out again. Namjoon could get them in and he knew where the cameras were controlled so he could switch them off. Jin confirmed that the men would all be occupied at Magpies and the fact that they were all there together worried him a great deal but he tried not to show it. He was worried sick, he'd worked for Blue long enough to know that this wasn't something he did on a whim, this was planned and when he thought back to everything he'd heard over recent months, it all started making sense.
After locking up Jungkook's apartment they headed to Starling's, Namjoon telling Jin to stay in the car but he refused so he begged him to stay and he reluctantly gave in with a pout, his big brown eyes blinking quickly to feign innocence.
"Please Jinnie, please stay put. If something goes wrong in there, I can't protect you."
"Okay" he said, raising his hands in defeat, feeling slightly warmed by Namjoon wanting to keep him safe. They were still 'them' the couple who were in love and acted like they'd been married for twenty years when they were together. It was that foundation that he was sure would hold them together even if he understood they had a lot of talking to do.
The club was in darkness along the back corridors where all the offices were and they used torches instead of switching on lights, going into Teal's office where Namjoon stood and watched the men go to work. They could turn on the lights in the office, there weren't any windows and the camera's weren't on. The flashes from their cameras blinked furiously as Namjoon opened the safes and gave them access to everything he could. They knew they could only minutes, Namjoon couldn't be 100% sure that the rest of the club was completely closed, he couldn't hear any music but there could still be staff around.
