Em's POV:
Despite it being late afternoon, the heat from the sun was still blazing down as we walked through the city. Up ahead I saw the entrance to a ranch and I tugged on Niall's hand to pull him closer.
"We could take a walk round here?" I suggested, looking through at the land that was dotted with cacti. I spotted a paddock with horses and a few men walking around wearing cowboy hats. Niall nodded in agreement and we set off walking, our fingers laced together.
"It's so peaceful," Niall said softly after a bit. We were now quite a way from the entrance and there was no one around.
"Maybe we should all buy cowboy hats and come and ride the horses," I giggled, looking over my shoulder at the paddock in the distance.
"I wouldn't have the first idea how to ride a horse," Niall laughed. I grinned.
"Me neither but it would be awfully funny to watch Harry try," I said with a devilish smirk. Niall chuckled and put his arm around me, pulling me into his side and kissing my temple as we kept walking. We came to the bottom of a hill and we both gazed up it. I turned my head to Niall.
"Coming?" I smiled.
"You sure you can manage a hill? Without getting tired?" He asked, his brow furrowed with concern.
"Only one way to find out," I grinned with a shrug as I turned to start climbing. Niall rolled his eyes.
"Em I don't want you hurting yourself," Niall said, pulling my hand so that I turned back to him. I sighed.
"If I get tired we'll stop and sit where we get to," I compromised. "But I bet there's a really cool view at the top so I want to at least try." I held Niall's gaze, my stubbornness meaning I wasn't going to back down on this. Niall knew that too so eventually he smiled and shook his head.
"Okay fine, but promise you'll stop if you're tired? I'm not having a repeat of the Space Centre," he chuckled. I held out my pinky and watched as Niall hooked his own around mine.
"Promise."
With that I started walking up the hill. I made sure to take it slow so that I didn't tire myself out early. Niall pushed his hands into his pockets as we walked, the low sun shining on his face. I kept stealing glances at him, watching the way he smiled slightly as he looked at our surroundings, the way he kept pushing his sunglasses up his nose as they slipped down, the way the muscles in his arms tensed and relaxed as he walked. Niall looked over at me and caught me already staring. I grinned cheekily, not caring that I was caught. Niall returned it and chuckled, putting an arm around me.
"Were you checking me out?" He teased as he pulled me into his side. I shrugged nonchalantly.
"Do you blame me?" I countered, raising an eyebrow up at him. Niall grinned and I saw a light pink colour rise on his cheeks. I kissed his cheek with a smile before concentrating on where we were walking. "Oh look, we're nearly at the top!" I cheered. I started walking faster, desperate to see the view on the other side.
"Em, take it easy!" Niall called with a chuckle. I ignored him, thinking I'd be fine as I jogged up the rest of the hill. It wasn't until I was at the top and gasping for breath that I realised I was wrong, but I was determined not to let on to Niall.
My eyes widened at the view in front of me as I took deep breaths to calm my breathing. We were high up looking down over the valley. The people walking the streets were so far below us they looked like tiny ants and I could hear the sound of a car horn faintly.
"Wow," Niall whispered, having caught me up. I didn't respond, too out of breath to form words. Instead I simply smiled out at the view. "You alright? You were mad to run that last bit," Niall asked, turning to face me. I looked up at him and shrugged.
