Em's POV:

"So Em, Sam so kindly bought you a ticket for tonight so that you can come and be in the crowd with us," my mum told me, a bright smile on her face. How bloody perfect. I took a deep breath to refrain from arguing and causing a scene in the restaurant. I felt someone squeeze my knee in reassurance and I looked to my left to see Harry giving me a look. I could almost hear him saying 'just roll with it'.

"Right great, thanks," I mumbled, looking down at my spaghetti and suddenly finding that I had lost my appetite. The two of us had been brought out for dinner with Mum, Sam and Gemma, as a way to 'get to know one another' as Mum put it. Mum had been practically attached to my hip all afternoon and as a result I hadn't been able to spend any time with Niall when we got back from the sound check, so it was safe to say my mood was already significantly darker.

I twirled the pasta round my fork over and over again while Harry talked to Sam about what he does for work (accountant), whether he has any children (no thank god, I don't want any bratty step siblings), and where he's from (York). I was silently fuming at Harry for being so friendly towards him, hating that he had taken Mum's side with this. I forced myself to eat the rest of my spaghetti, wanting nothing more than to get this evening over with.

"Anyone for dessert?" Sam asked with that stupid friendly grin on his face.

"No," I stated firmly. I didn't want to be here any longer.

"Oh Em you always want dessert! Come on, our treat," Mum beamed, squeezing Sam's arm. I made no attempt to hide the roll of my eyes as I glanced down at the dessert menu now in front of me. As I read I heard my phone ping from next to me. I picked it up and saw a text from Harry.

Harry: Deep. Breaths.

I smirked to myself.

Me: Do you think the chocolate fudge cake will stain his shirt more when I throw it across the table at him, or shall I pick the eton mess?

Harry: Don't you dare.

I turned and pulled a face at Harry before looking back down at my menu.

"Have we decided?" The waitress asked, appearing at the end of the table. Everyone put their orders in before turning to me.

"I'll take a chocolate fudge cake," I said with a smirk in Harry's direction. Obviously I wouldn't actually throw cake at Sam, but the look on Harry's face made the acting worth it.

"When do you guys get home then?" Sam asked me and Harry.

"We have another two weeks here and then we'll be back," Harry answered.

"And when are you off to university Em?" Sam turned to me.

"Mid September," I said, stirring my drink absentmindedly with my straw.

"You have plenty of time to buy everything you need then," Sam said with a smile. "Hey I've got some spare pots and pans that I don't need, you'd be welcome to have them?" I rolled my eyes.

"No thanks," I replied, not even looking up at him. As if I was going to use his old hand me down pots.

"Em honey, Sam's just trying to help," Mum said and when I looked up I noticed the slight desperation in her eyes as she silently begged me to cooperate. Sorry Mum.

"I don't care. I don't want them," I said firmly.

"Ah it's not a problem, was just a thought," Sam said. Our desserts started to arrive and I was thankful for the distraction. I ate in silence, but well aware of the glances Harry kept giving me to make sure I wasn't slingshotting cake across the table at Sam.
