I get knocked down

But I get up again

You're never gonna keep me down

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

"Y/N? Y/N?" Peter's voice rings through the hallway. Pepper and I sit on the couch as she applies antiseptic to one of my cuts.

"We're in here!" I call. Peter, Tony, and Steve run into the room, looking concerned. Their faces soften when they see us. "The guys are tied up in the conference room," I say, using my head to tilt in its direction. Steve nods, heading towards it, followed by Clint, Sam and Bucky.

I stand up as Peter comes over, wrapping me in a hug.

"God, I was so worried," He whispers. He pulls away to look at me. "What happened?"

"I almost died. The vision almost came true, but Pepper got here just in time. She saved my life." I say, smiling at her. She gives me a grateful smile back.

"I'm gonna bring Pepper downstairs," Tony says. "You remember the rules." He says, looking between the two of us.

"Yeah, yeah, no PDA." I say, rolling my eyes.

"The suit looks good," Tony says, and I give him a small smile as he leaves.

"I'm so sorry, Y/N. I shouldn't have left, I should have-"

"Hey," I say, cutting Peter off. "It's not like I died or got seriously injured or anything. How were you supposed to know they were going to invade here?" He knows that I'm right, but still looks upset.

"I just feel like I should have protected you better."

"Why? 'Cause you're the big, strong man and I need protecting? We both know that out of anyone you could have dated you picked someone who can protect themselves pretty well." I point out, and he nods.

"No, I know you're right. I just- haven't been able to protect people in the past." He says quietly, and I don't say anything. I'm not sure what to say.

"Y/N, there you are!" Wanda says, coming into the room and breaking the tension. She gives me a hug and I hug back. "I'm so glad you're okay."

"Where's Nat?" I ask.

"I think she's with Bucky," Wanda replies. "Come on, let's get you cleaned up." I follow her away from Peter and into the medical room. "You did a good job, Y/N," Wanda says.

"Thank you, but not really." I reply sheepishly.

"Why do you say that?" She asks, pulling out a first aid kit.

"I didn't even use my powers, I just punched my way out." I explain, and she nods.

"Well, punching isn't bad, either." Wanda says, cleaning up another cut. I wince. "And you don't know where your powers come from?"

"I really wish I did, Wanda." I say.

"Well, let's brainstorm." Wanda says, grabbing a bandaid. She places it on my cheek. "Your mother, does she have any magical abilities?"

"No, unless you count the ability to burn food even when the oven isn't involved."

Wanda laughs. "Your father?" She asks, shutting the first aid kit and putting it away.

"I don't know him." I reply. "I don't even really have one."

"It could be from him, couldn't it?" Wanda asks, taking a seat next to me. "Hypothetically speaking."

"I guess you're right."

"Well. you didn't touch a stone and you weren't exposed to toxic waste..." Wanda says and I smile.

"No, I wasn't."

"You should talk to Tony and Bruce about it." Wanda suggests, and I raise an eyebrow.

"Why?"

"Maybe they can help you. It's not a guarantee, but it's a start." I nod, considering. It's not a bad idea.

"Hey, there you guys are." Natasha says, entering the room. "How are you doing, Y/N?"

"Good. I could have used some backup earlier, though." I say with a small smile. Wanda and Nat smile, too.

"Well, I saw what you did in the conference room. You did a nice job, kiddo." Natasha compliments and I smile. I check the time.

"Shit, I gotta go. My mom's going to kill me if I'm late again." I say, standing up.

"Do you want me to walk you home? You've had kind of a rough day." Natasha asks gently.

"No, it's okay. I'll probably ask Peter since he needs to head out soon, too." I say, turning to face them. "Bye, guys. I'll see you tomorrow."

"Bye, kiddo." Natasha says.

"Stay safe!" Wanda adds as I leave. Peter's sitting on the couch when I enter the living room and he stands up when he sees me.

"Hey," I say, walking over to him. "I'm about to leave, do you want to..." I trail off.

"Uh, sure, yeah, that's- yeah, I'll walk you home." Peter says awkwardly, and I nod as we head out. We walk out the front doors into the sunlight.

"So Wanda mentioned something to me," I say after a few minutes of silence.

"Mm?" Peter responds lightly.

"She said that Tony and Bruce might be able to help me find where my powers come from... or who my father is." Peter looks at me.

"Really?"

"Well, they have all that tech-y stuff. Why couldn't they?"

"No, no, they could. It's just... maybe you should talk to your mom about it first." Peter suggests. I make a face.

"I don't know how I feel about that one. I mean, she would freak. Besides, she probably doesn't even want me to find my Dad, but I've thought about it a lot, you know?"

"No, I know. I know Mr. Stark would help you out. And Mr. Banner would, too. If you really want to do it, you know I'll support you." We stop outside of my apartment building.

"I know," I reply, grinning. "And that's why I like you so much." Peter smiles, too. "Sorry today was so crazy."

"Hey, what are you apologizing for? You took down, like, a hundred bad guys." I scoff.

"It was more like fifteen."

"That's more than we usually fight all together." Peter reminds me.

"True," I grin. "Okay, I better go." I place a kiss on his cheek. "See you tomorrow."

"See you tomorrow, Y/N." Peter responds, and I smile as I disappear into the building.
