So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go
'Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh babe, I hate to go

"I'll miss you," My mom says, squeezing me tightly. I hug back, closing my eyes, taking in the scent of her perfume. She steps back, tears in her eyes. "If you can, call me."
"I know."
"Take lots of pictures."
"I will."
"And videos, too."
"Yes, Mom," I say with a laugh. I take my last look of my apartment, sighing.
"Are you sure you don't want me to come with you to say goodbye?" She asks, and I shake my head firmly. I planned this - a smooth, simple exit. Quill agreed to move the date of their departure back to the next morning, and I was not going to let an emotional goodbye delay us any longer.
"I'll see you in September." I say, mustering up a smile. I didn't realize how hard it would be to say goodbye until right now. My mom smiles, pulling me in for one final hug.
"I love you," She whispers.
"I love you, too," I reply, holding back tears as best as I can.
I take the subway to Stark Towers. Tony offered to have Happy drive me, but I wanted to ride one more time, knowing that even in space, there is nothing like the screeching of the tracks, the rattling of the cars, and the distinct smell that New York City subways tend to have. A smell that's impossible to describe. You just have to smell it.
Now, I know - I'm acting like this is the biggest deal in the world, like I'm going to space and never coming back, but who really knows what the future holds?
Everyone is waiting for me when I arrive - everyone except Peter. Despite countless apology texts, offers to get him churros or to watch Star Wars before I leave, he still hasn't forgiven me, or even acknowledged me. I thought he might have shown up, but clearly I was mistaken.
I give Vision a hug, shake Rhodey's hand, say goodbye to all the people who have basically been part of my second family for the past few months. I even manage to threaten Bucky and describe to him what I'll do to him (send him into a black hole, obviously) if he hurts Natasha, to which he just makes a concerned face and laughs. Only Natasha, Steve, Wanda, and Tony accompany me on my way up to the ship.
"We'll see you soon," Wanda says, enveloping me in a hug. I hug her back, and feel the comfort and warmth that only Wanda Maximoff could produce. She smiles. "Don't do anything too dangerous." She warns. "Now that I know there's another one of us with telekinetic powers, I don't want to do this alone." I laugh, and so does she.
"She's right," Steve agrees, approaching us. "We're going to need you when you get back, so don't waste all of your talents on space." I smile.
"Thanks, Steve." I say, and he nods, grinning. He and Wanda step aside, and Tony approaches me.
"Yeah, I'm not good at these sappy goodbye things." He says plainly. "But I'll miss you. It's been nice having you annoying me all the time." I laugh, and I watch the corner of his mouth perk up in a smile.
"Thanks, Tony. For everything." I say, my voice taking on a more serious tone, and he nods. There's an odd moment where we just sort of look at each other and then he clears his throat.
"Hey, don't screw up the suit too badly, okay? I don't want you to have to make an emergency stop back here so I can fix it." I nod, giving a small smile. Of course. Typical Tony changing the subject. "And don't get into too much trouble."
"I'll try," I reply, and I stick out my hand for a handshake. In a very un-Tony-like series of events, he hugs me, and though I'm a little shocked, I hug back. He finally lets go, pats me on the shoulder, and moves away, leaving my last goodbye to be Natasha.
"No Peter," Natasha looks around. "Did you say your goodbyes already?" I shake my head.
"We're kind of- he's kind of- we're not... on great terms right now," I finish. She raises an eyebrow and nods, but doesn't say anything else.
"I'm gonna miss you, kiddo," She says, smiling.
"I'm going to miss you too, Nat," I say tearfully, and I pull her into a fierce hug. She laughs a little, hugging me back. So much for unemotional goodbyes.
"Hey, you almost ready to go?" Quill asks, popping his head out of the ship. I nod.
"Yeah, just... one more sec." I say, looking around. What am I even looking for? Peter? He's not coming. Why would he? I take a deep breath. "Okay, I'm ready." I say, and Quill grabs my bag, hauling it up the ramp.
"Y/N!" I hear a distant voice exclaim. Funny, it almost sounds like... "Y/N! Wait!" It calls again, and I watch as Peter swings towards us, a giant suitcase in hand.
"Peter, what are you doing?"
"I'm coming with you." He says, out of breath.
"What?!" I exclaim.
"I talked to May, and Quill, and he's okay with it, and she's okay with it - I mean, she's fine with it, she's May, so she's not like, you know, super happy with the idea but - that's not the point, the point is... I'm coming with you." I laugh.
"Peter... are you serious?"
"I'm sorry I stormed out, and that I left you on read, I just... wanted to surprise you and I wanted to talk to May immediately, because there was like a fifty percent chance she would say yes, and-"
"I hate to break this up, but can we do this inside? We really have to get a move on." Rocket says, a frown on his face. I laugh.
"Yeah, of course." Peter says, and I grab his hand. We turn towards our friends, who smile at us.
"See you in September."
