Grounded

The street was chaos as the Highbreed destroyed it.

The fire and smoke rising high into the sky as we all rushed to stop it from attacking anyone innocent. Not that Gwen, Kevin, and I were doing a good job without Ben to smack it around though.

Gwen fired as much of her mana as she could, barely even moving the Highbreed as it ambled down the street. Clawing up ground where it wanted to throw stones at us.

I raised another shield of stars to protect us each time.

"If Ben doesn't get here soon I'm gonna go fight the Highbreed." I shouted.

"Heh, bet you'd show him up too." Kevin snickered.

"No, (Y/n). We need to be patient." Gwen argued in Ben's defense.

"The guy's tearing up Downtown!" I shot back.

At that moment the hero of the hour came running down the street, he only paused long enough to activate the Omnitrix and transform. In a flash of green he became Swampfire.

"I grow weary of your pathetic human interference." The Highbreed snarled. He reached over twisting a lamp post from the ground and going to hit us with it.

A flash of fire had it melting before it could even be a weapon. Ben leaping in as the Highbreed chittered in confusion. Kicking it in the face, the Highbreed went skidding down the street. Ben turned to us in worry.

"You guys okay?" Ben didn't wait for an answer, gently grabbing my face and turning it side to side.

I shook him off with a grin. "A little drained, but good."

"Nice to see ya, you workin' flex hours now?" Kevin joked.

The Highbreed rose up behind Ben. I reached out, a distant voice screamed, but nothing could stop the heavy fist that slammed into Swampfire's face as he turned.

Ben went sailing through the air, hitting the ground hard. A dent in the road formed, and Ben didn't get up.

The Highbreed leapt over Gwen, Kevin, and I. Not as big of a threat as Ben was to its plan.

Time to prove it wrong. I snarled, charging as the Highbreed ranted about its superiority. "Your final words, Tennyson? Still reeling from the augmented power of my new form no doubt."

Kevin went in to distract, "If you're saying you're uglier, you get no argument here."

"I defeated Tennyson, what chance has the likes of you?" The Highbreed spat.

"Me? Not so much. The one charging at you though...might want to buckle in." Kevin snorted.

The Highbreed turned around, I leapt with my powers, and my fist became a giant one made of stars. I made sure it landed, and it landed hard. Right in the face. It crashed into the street, cobble breaking. I lifted my fist and delivered another punch.

The Highbreed squealed, claws raking at the stars. He wiggled, scrapping himself up more to escape. The tiny flaps that acted as wings flared as he took to the sky. "You've already wasted far too much of my valuable time, I deal with you at my leisure!"

"You'll be lucky to escape again." I called after it. The stars shrinking away, leaving my fist back as normal.

"Guys, Ben's still down!" Gwen cried.

We all rushed over to the hole where Swampfire still laid. I slid onto my knees, hands darting to hold his head as he came too. Groaning, a flash of green shone over him, back to normal as his hair fanned out beneath my fingers.
