I woke up from the buzzing of my alarm. I drowsily picked up my phone to check what time it was. The sun from my curtains beat on my face, and brightened my dim room.
It read 7:30 am. I sighed and sat up. My hair was all tangled and mated, so I walked over to the bathroom and combed my hair to look somewhat presentable.
It decided not to cooperate so I sprayed water on it and hoped it looked somewhat decent.
I had recently turned 16 during winter break, but I wasn't extremely excited for school next week.
I opened my closet and changed into some clothes that I saw fit for when I go to the local bakery.
My mom works there. My mom had recently opened a bakery that was fairly close to the house. I went every morning to get one of my mom's pastries.
Business was slow but I loved to support my mom at what she loved. Well what we loved.
Ever since I was little I loved to bake and cook with my mom. She had always made sure I could at least make a batch of cookies, without burning the house down. It was a paper of my childhood I cherished.
And it had really only been us since my father left. He's not even my father, more like some low life douche bag who had nothing better to do then abandon his family.
I changed into some regular high waisted black ripped jeans. Along with a belt that always fit with them. Then I wore a oversized NASA hoodie that I tucked in. Along with my doc martins that matched the pants.
_______
I ran out the house with a couple of bucks and walked over to my mom's bakery.
"Hi mom." I said as I walked in. She was at the counter placing fresh hot buns and muffins onto the display cases.
"Hola mi Bebe" my mom said. (Hey my baby) we grew up in Mexican culture so it wasn't unusual for us to switch between languages.
"Which pan do you want?" My mom asked as I dazed over the hot pastries, they'd had always been best when fresh.
"Pan dulce." (Sugar bread) I said pointing to a bun with delicately pasted sugar on top. She pulled it out and placed it into a paper bag.
I handed her the money, to which she refused.
"No mi Nina." She said handing it back to me. I shook my head.
"Ama take it. You need it more than I do." I said. My mom sighed and placed it into her register unwillingly.
I sat down on the table and promptly ate my pan. (Pan = bread)
"How was your sleep?" Asked my mom. I gulped down my bread to answer.
"It was alright." I lied, I had grown up with insomnia (a condition where you can't sleep. I have it.) and my mom had always asked me the same question everyday.
"Bueno, is the sleeping tea working?" Asked my mom. I nodded in order to not cause trouble. I was lying but I was very much used to it.
"How is my now 16 year old daughter doing?" Asked my mom as she walked out from behind the counter to sit next to me. I smiled.
"She's been ok." I said joking back at her. I shoved the last piece of my bread in my mouth.
Just then I heard a ding come from the door behind me. I turned around to see a very tall guy.
He seemed to be about my age, but he was wearing a mask, I should be wearing one too but usually no one ever came by.
He had light brown hair, which was almost a dirty blond color. He also wore sunglasses. Despite it being cloudy outside.
"Uh hello." The guy said awkwardly. My mom walked back to the counter and waved back.
"Oh why hello. What would you like today?" Asked my mom in her slight broken English.
The guy looked around at the fresh buns, "I'll take a blueberry muffin and some bedote." (Another Mexican bread, it's just like a normal loaf of bread but great for beans. And I dont know how to spell it lol.) He said, I found it funny how he stumbled on the word "bedote."
My mom grabbed the breads and handed a bag to the guy. He handed my mom 2 dollars and walked to a table next to me.
"Hi" I waved shyly. I just was appreciative of him coming by to get something. It was usually deserted and I had to stay there for hours to accompany my mom so she wouldn't be discouraged.
"Hi" he waved back. He grabbed the muffin from his bag and slowly took off his glasses and mask. I inhaled sharply.
It caught me off guard on how cute he was. And I think my mom noticed.
"Oi este nino is muy mono. Ve hablar con el." (Oi, this boy is cute. Go talk to him.) My mom said nudging me. I rolled my eyes.
"Ama cállate." (Mom shut up, it's used regularly so it's not as offensive as it is in English.) I said nudging her back. I tried my best not to stare at the boy. But I couldn't help it.
"So do you come here often?" The guy asked putting his muffin down. I nodded.
"Yeah this is my mom's bakery. I come her everyday." I said.
"That's awesome. You're mom's baking is amazing. I've never really tried a lot of bread so when I found this place I was pretty excited of the new pastries and names I've never heard of." The guy said. I nodded in agreement.
"You'd be surprised of the different types." I chuckled. He laughed and pulled out the bedote from his bag.
"If you eat that with beans and cheese it taste delicious. Trust me." I said. He bit into the bread and awkwardly put a thumbs up.
"It's amazing. I'll definitely try it." He said.
"Glad you like it." My mom said. He nodded.
"Cant get any better than my mom's baking."
"I didn't ask what your name was?" He said. I gulped nervously.
"My names Y/n." I said.
"Oh that's a really pretty name. My name's Ranboo." He said. It was a very strange name, but I liked it.
"I've never heard that name before." I said. He nodded.
"Yeah I get that a lot." He chuckled.
___________
After the day at the bakery we exchanged numbers and I went home.
I plopped on my bed and couldn't stop thinking of the boy. He was very kind and cute. But it was weird just falling for a stranger, so I shook it off.
Most likely was just a first site thing. I'm not the type to swoon over guys. But I contemplated on calling him.
Luckily I refrained.
