Some Vision Issues

It was a day later.

Roger had slept in your hospital bed alongside you.

It was nice to be with him again, but the circumstances that made it that way were not how you wanted to see him for the first time in a month.

His hand fell asleep holding yours, you watched him as he gently and automatically inhaled and exhaled.

You could make out shapes and moving stuff, it was still just a giant blur to you though.

You could also hardly see color.

It was blurry greys, blacks, and whites.

You missed the color.

Would you ever get to sit on the edge of a cliff over the beach and watch the beautiful sunset with Roger sitting next to you? Would you ever get to visit the park where you and Roger had your first date and know the color of the velvety green grass or the little blue picnic blanket?

"You gonna just keeping staring at me?"

Roger interrupted your thoughts, dragging you out of the rabbit hole of what if's.

"Sorry," you say putting your head back down on his shoulder looking through the window overlooking a small court.

There was an old woman and an old man in a wheelchair sitting together holding hands.

There was a nurse sitting behind them.

"It's ok," he says and strokes your hair.

Suddenly you hear three knocks on the door and then the nurse who has been monitoring you opened the door.

"Hello Ms. Y/N. I'm gonna do some daily tests to see how you are doing, is that alright?" She asks in a kind way, tracing her eyes and index finger over a clipboard attached to your bed.

You nod and give her a half-smile.

You could make out her dark hair, brown or black. Maybe even a dark red or purple, you couldn't tell, it was just another dark grey to you.

"Mr. Taylor, you can stay but this is the patient's bed," she said in a professional way.

He gave a sarcastic laugh and you could feel the weight of the bed shift as he stood up.

"Open your mouth for me please." You opened and she stuck a cold metal probe in your mouth. You slid it under your tongue.

After 30 seconds she pulled it out.

"Normal," she reported and wrote down.

The doctor came in after she was done and read the clipboard.

"Well Y/N I see you're having some vision issues. We are going to do a color test to see the severity, don't worry just relax and try your best."

You nodded.

"And no shots for right now." You smiled as he said remembering your fear of needles.

You watch the figure hold up circles, all a bit different color of grey.

"Red, purple, black, white, orange, green, red, yellow, yellow, red, purple, blue," you said as he flipped each card.

"How did I do Doc?" you said a bit confident.

"Well you got the white one correct," he said in an unsure tone.

You nodded your head once and bit your lip, embarrassed.

"It's alright, it's not your fault." The doctor said.

"We are gonna do a scan of your brain, it's pretty easy, just like an x-ray, just bigger and longer."

You were nervous about what they were gonna find but you okayed it, jumped in the provided wheelchair, and scooted along down the halls to the scanning room.
