"Babe!" Leah said and ran down with Marnie's doctor bag and a few ice packs.
Marnie put her cloth tote in the corner of the wall near the steps.
"Rog, can you hear me?" You and Marnie flipped him over after he lied there for a second, his back facing up. It was horrendous to see him like this.
He was unconscious and not moving.
Once you both gently and successfully flipped him over, you could see the damage done to his face.
You couldn't even imagine what had happened to his body. His lungs or rubs. His legs and arm. His ankle or wrist.
His brain.
A giant gash ranged from his forehead to his cheeks. It was on the right side of his face.
Blood covered his face and dyed his hair.
Tears started streaming down your face and you noticed as they splattered down onto Roger's face.
You watched as Marnie brought out her doctor's things.
You remembered the long necklace-like thing around her neck. It plugged into her ears as she listened to his heart.
A stethoscope.
You kneeled on your knees and leaned over, your face in your palms yet again.
You heard a harsh groan escaped from his lips and you perked up.
Another escaped and his head perked up as he opened his eyes.
"What-" Marnie quickly shushed him.
"There was an earthquake, you fell down the stairs. You need a doctor."
"What's-" He started.
"Wrong with her leg?" Marnie finished. He nodded.
"You sprained it. I think. I'm not sure but it probably will hurt."
"Oh, I'm so sorry Roger." You broke down and said.
His hand reached over and took yours.
"It's ok." He silently whispered.
A new set of tears overcame you.
"Can everyone help get him up?" Marnie asked.
Roger started seating up as your arm came behind him. You took most of his weight.
His arm came around your shoulder.
Marnie was on his other side and Leah stayed back to clean up the pool of blood at the bottom of the staircase and to clean the stairs of the dripping blood where he whacked his head.
It was quite a scene.
The staircase was enclosed in a set of walls with only a small empty doorway a few steps back from the bottom of the last step. There was a flickering light that has dozens of trapped bugs on it buzzing above, on the ceiling of the landing before going up the steps.
The staircase itself was wood and stained a dark oak color.
The doorway to Leah's flat sat right at the top of the stairs. The doorway at the bottom of the steps spits right out onto a bustling London sidewalk.
Marnie's car was in a 'reserved parking' spot special for tenants.
Marnie helped Roger in and you went around the other side of the vehicle.
You sat in the middle back seat right next to Roger as he was on the left side.
Marnie gently closed the car door and got into the driver's seat.
You held a rag Marnie had given you up to Roger's bleeding gash.
Marnie glanced a few times at the two of you in the rearview mirror and would smile.
As you arrived at the hospital, you watched as some person, too mutilated to tell their gender, being wheeled into the hospital on one of those carts.
Ambulances and sirens buzzed around the area.
"Ready?" Marnie asked as she looked behind her shoulder.
You knew this hospital.
Dr. Powell.
