"Ouch!" He hissed and I eyed him, carefully pulling the plate straight up with Angela nearby in case I needed her.
"Sorry, Genji." I said then set the plate aside, grabbing the piece of chest skin.
"Ready?" I asked and he nodded.
"Just say the word and we'll take a break-"
"Please, Dr. Ziegler, I want to continue." Genji said and I nodded, setting the skin on him.
"Remember, they warned the chest would-"
"I'll take a break after, Wrench." He said and looked at me, but I licked my lips and began the process of installing the skin with the special lamp and pen. As I did, he grit his teeth, trying to hold in his pained yells, but I stopped as he whined.
"Don't!" He growled and I nodded.
"Genji-"
"A break will only prolong the pain, Doctor!" He spit then yelled out in pain as I got to the center of his chest.
"Okay, I can't!" I yelled and set the lamp down.
"Wrench, please!" He begged and I looked at him then saw how desperate he was for me to finish.
"What is going on here?!" I looked at Hanzo as he stormed in with McCree hot on his heels, Jack coming in a moment later.
"What are you doing to my brother?!" Hanzo snarled, staring at the skin we had laid out.
"We're fixing what you did to him!" I spit and Hanzo looked guilty, but I felt a metallic hand grab my wrist and I looked at Genji, who smiled softly.
"Please, Wrench, keep going." He whispered and I huffed, holding the table he was on.
"Jack, come here." He came around then I put his hand in Genji's.
"Genji, squeeze if you have to." I said and he nodded, the room going silent as I grabbed the lamp.
"You can't hurt him-" Hanzo started, but I was tired of his hypocritical bullshit.
"McCree, shut him up!" I spit and held the lamp over Genji, who screamed in pain as I forced my hand to keep moving. When I was done, I turned the lamp off and quickly left, not listening to a single word anyone said as I went to my room.
Genji's POV
I took deep breaths as I tried to force the pain out of my body, hearing silence around me."Genji?" I heard Dr. Ziegler then I opened my eyes and slowly sat up.
"I'm alright." I whispered, reaching up and touching the skin. It felt so real, I was nearly convinced it was my real chest.
"Why did she storm out like that?" Jesse asked and Commander sighed as he turned to the table with the skin parts laid out.
"When I found her in Junkertown, she was with two Junkers named Roadhog and Junkrat. She was vicious, mean, she enjoyed hurting people almost as much as Roadhog. But she was also scared, starving, and she was trying to steal food from me. I made a deal with her. Come with me and I'll feed her, clothe her, and train her. Or, she could stay in Junkertown and die there." He started and turned to us, sitting against the table with his arms crossed.
"Wrench took a week to decide, because Jamie and Mako had become her brothers, her guards, and her lifelines. I told her, when we left, that I wanted her to cut off all contact with them so as to not cause unnecessary issues for us and she hated me. I was sure she'd return to them at any moment, but she never did." He said and took a deep breath, shaking his head.
"The Wrench that I picked up in that desert wasteland is not the same one who just hated herself for hurting Genji. Laina would never hurt anyone now." He whispered and, for a second, I hadn't realized what he'd said. Then it hit me.
"Wait, Laina?" I asked and Commander looked at me then cursed.
"Fuck." He whispered and Jesse stepped closer.
"Her real name is Laina?" He asked and Commander glared.
"No one is supposed to know, McCree, don't you dare call her that-"
"I won't, promise." He said and Commander nodded as we all promised the same thing.
"She'll kill me if she finds out I slipped up." He said, but something still didn't add up to me.
"If she was so vicious and bloodthirsty, why does she hate hurting me?" I asked and Jack huffed.
"It's a personal code of hers. One: don't tell people her past unless she trusts them completely. Two: never go down without a fight. Three: never hurt those you consider friends or family. She broke her own rule." He said and I got up, leaving Wrench's workshop and going to room 3507. As I got there, I knocked and waited, hearing her moving inside.
"What?" She asked as she opened the door then I smiled as she let me in.
"Don't kill him, but Commander slipped and told us your name. Just McCree, Dr. Ziegler, Hanzo, and myself." I said and she cursed.
"Dammit, Jack!" She snarled and crossed her arms, shaking her head.
"You can trust us, Laina." I said and she looked at me then took a deep breath.
"Only Jamie and Mako have called me 'Laina' since I moved out of America." She said and smiled softly.
"I asked you to do this, Laina." I said and she looked at me then shook her head.
"I hurt you-"
"Laina, give me your hand." I said and held my hand out, waiting for her to put her hand in mine. When she did, I put it to my new chest and felt her palm there. I could feel her skin on mine as if she was touching my bare chest, which she technically was.
"I'm here, I'm not hurt, you didn't break your code." I said and she hesitated, but shakily nodded and put her other hand on my chest.
"It-it really feels real." She whispered and I smiled, looking at her hands on my chest.
"It feels real to me as well, your hands and your warmth." I said and watched as she jerked her hands back, holding them to her chest.
"Let's go, break is over." She said and I smiled as I turned and followed her back to the workshop.
