I got to the door then cursed as I realized Wrench had locked it, but I could hear her screaming inside.
"Athena, open the door!" I yelled and heard the locks click. As I threw the door open, I ran for Wrench and heard people behind me, but I grabbed the pink haired girl and tried to shake her awake.
"Wrench, wake up!" I yelled and saw tears falling down her cheeks.
"Wake the hell up!" I yelled and cursed, looking around for something to wake her. As I saw the alarm clock she had fixed up, I grabbed it and saw prying eyes at the door as I set the alarm to go off. The next thing I knew, as the bells rang, I was on the ground with a bruise blooming on my cheek and Wrench was awake staring at me.
Wrench's POV
"Jack?!" I breathed and got up, grabbing him and checking his cheek."I-I'm sorry-"
"Another one?" He asked and I nodded as I looked at the door, which had Overwatch.
"Jack, she ain't worth it!" Jesse spit then left, but I looked at Jack to see he looked upset.
"Go!" He snarled at his friends and they left then I helped Jack stand.
"I-I'm sorry-"
"You're okay, right?" He asked and I nodded, which made him smile.
"Then don't be sorry. You can talk to the people here, Wrench, you can trust them like you trust me." He said and I nodded, watching as he walked out and shut the door behind him.
~*-*~
"Morning, Wrench! I made breakfast!" Lena cheered as I walked in, but I nodded as I zipped up my hoodie.
"Thanks, Lena." I whispered and took a plate, going to the table with my new tablet and sitting.
"It ain't right, risking our lives like that." Jesse whispered to Reinhardt, who was eyeing me.
"We don't know her, Jesse-"
"Do you two want to share?!" I snapped and the room went silent as they eyed me.
"Seriously, go on! Why whisper when we can hear you?!" I snapped and Jesse looked away as Jack came in.
"Wrench, did you look over those plans I sent you?" He asked and I looked at him then shook my head.
"I'm a risk, why let me fix the base?" I spit and stood, slapping the tablet against his chest as I went to the hangar. I huffed and took my hoodie off, going to the Aurora and beginning work on it to settle my mind.
Genji's POV
"What did you say?" Commander asked McCree, who looked angry."She's a damn risk and now you got her working on our home-"
"Wrench is one of the best damn mechanical engineers I have ever met-"
"Does she have training?" Brigitte asked, but Jack didn't answer.
"So, she's not really an engineer?" She asked and the room was silent for a moment.
"How can you give me a chance, but not her?" I cut in and all eyes turned to me.
"I grew up Yakuza, I was nearly killed by my own brother, yet you were eager to chance all on me. Why is this girl, Wrench, so different? Has she done anything to make you believe her a risk? Has she done-"
"We know who you are, Genji. We don't know her-"
"You didn't know me when I first arrived, Mei." I said and stood.
"If you will not give her a chance, she will not give you a chance." I said and left, going to the hangar. As I walked in, I saw two legs sticking out from under the Aurora on a rolling board.
"Ahem." I announced myself then she rolled out, sitting up and looking at me.
"Genji, right?" I nodded and she stood, going to the table. When she did, I stared at her back that could be seen thanks to her braid over her shoulder. Going down the center over her spine was a surgical scar, it had four smaller scars branching out at the top, but I couldn't see the rest due to her shirt.
"It's ugly, isn't it?" I blinked and realized she was looking at me over her shoulder.
"The scar, I'm sure it's repulsive." She said, but I shook my head.
"No, not at all. It actually answers a few questions." I said and she turned to me.
"Not-not many know about my scar, just Jack and two others." She said and I nodded.
"I understand." I said then walked closer.
"I-I also have scars-"
"Everyone does, Genji." She said, but watched as I reached up to pull my faceplate off. When I did, she stared at the scars on my face.
"Not everyone has scars like ours." I said and she nodded, reaching her fingers out, but I stepped back and her hand dropped.
"I'm sorry." She whispered then went around me, going to the Aurora.
"Jack claims you are one of the best mechanical engineers he's ever met." I said and she looked at me as she sat on the board, rolling under the ship.
"I guess I'm good! That's what happens when you lived in Junkertown-"
"The bandit place in Australia?!" I asked and she laughed.
"Yeah, lived there for about four years before Jack found me going through his things!" She said and I sat on the chair.
"Why was he there?!"
"Bandits, Talon, criminals! Why else?!" She laughed and I smiled. As we talked, I realized how alike we were, but at the same time, I realized how much she had missed this simple human interaction. Even if I was mostly metal now.
"This is me." She whispered as I walked her to her room then I nodded, looking at the door to her room.
"What were you dreaming of before?" I asked and looked at her, but saw a sad look on her face.
"Something bad." She said and turned, putting the code in for her door then shutting it behind her, locking me out. I huffed and went to my room, locking the door and going to my mirror, taking my faceplate off.
"How can you be such an idiot, Genji Shimada?" I whispered and shook my head, going to bed.
