Chapter 56
Severe
My eyes felt so heavy. I slowly opened them and I was surprised to see that I was in a hospital room, not the clinic at school which I've expected.
I roamed my eyes and then I saw Jax sitting on the couch. H-He looked so troubled. His body was curled, his elbow were on his legs, and he was covering his ears using both of his hands. He was shaking a little too.
Dali-dali akong bumangon at inalis iyong mga nakakabit sa akin.
He heard what Chance said. He heard it. I saw him and he heard it.
"Jax..." I said softly when I reached him.
Mabilis siyang nag-angat ng tingin at nagulat ako nang bigla niya akong yakapin. Ang mga kamay niya ay pumalupot sa baywang ko. He remained seated while hugging me.
"I-I'm sorry," mahina kong sabi.
"Hindi ka naman magtatagal dito, 'di ba? Hindi naman malala, 'di ba?" I can hear the pain in his voice. "Nagsisinungaling si Chance, e."
I caressed his hair using both of my hands. My tears started to fall down. Umiling-iling ako kahit hindi niya nakikita.
Jax and I went out to the hospital's garden side for a fresh air. Puwede naman na raw akong makalabas bukas. Sina Mommy ay papunta na rin.
"It's true that I have a heart disease," I told Jax as we were walking side by side. I wanted to tell him everything. "When I dropped out, it's not because of you... It's because I went to the states for my treatment."
Tumingin ako sa kanya at nakita kong nahihirapan siyang i-process ang lahat.
"Bakit hindi mo sinabi sa 'kin?" His eyes were bloodshot. "Don't you trust me?"
Napahinto ako sa paglalakad, ganoon din siya.
"It's not that, Jax. I do trust you!"
"Parang alam na kasi nilang lahat... Ako na lang 'yong hindi," pilit siyang ngumiti.
"I'm so sorry for not telling you right away... I really don't want anyone at school to know, it just so happened that Chance and the others found it out," I explained. "I wanted to tell you, I just don't know how to start. I'm really sorry."
I was a little startled when he put his forehead on my shoulder.
"Hospital scares me. Pakiramdam ko, pag nandito ako, may mawawala sa 'kin. Parang may iiwan sa 'kin. Ayoko rito..." Ramdam ang takot at lungkot sa boses niya. Parang pinipiga ang puso ko dahil doon. "My Mom died in her hospital bed, holding my hand. Ever since then, I don't like hospitals anymore. It's killing me."
Now I understand why he was like that. He looked so scared and he was shaking. I was hurting for him. All I want is to take away all of his fears.
I put my arms around him as I tried to stop my tears from falling again. "I promise that we won't have to go here anymore... I'm okay and I know that I'll get better with my medications," I assured him.
He won't lose me.
"I'm think of adding a few more medications," anang Doctor.
Kausap niya kami ngayon kasama sina Mommy at Daddy.
Kumunot ang noo ko roon. Dadagdagan pa? But I already have a lot of medicines... "I'm fine, Doc. I'm not really sick at all these past few days."
"Calixta," sita ng Daddy. "Let's listen to your Doctor, okay? This is for your health."
