 Mae’s POV

I feel the wind messing up my hair as Landon and I walk down the beach, our hands interlocked with one another, and our feet getting a bit wet as the tide comes up high enough to get them wet. I can hear the seagulls squawking really loudly. I bet they are going around, searching out for whose food they are going to steal next.

I remember when I was eight years old, I was sitting on the bench, quietly eating some French fries, and then all of a sudden, a seagull swoops up and steals a fry off of the little plate thingy they were on. I remember just staring at the seagull that was flying away from me.

“So, what are your plans for tonight?” Landon speaks up, snapping me out of my mini flashback about that evil seagull that stole my food.

“Huh?” I shake my head, looking up at him. “Nothing really, I’ll probably just watch some TV or a movie or something like that. Nothing too special or crazy,” I inform him, swinging our hands back and forth. “What about you?” I ask him.

“Well, I was wondering if you wanted to go to a party with me tonight…” He trails off, turning his head to look down at me.

“A party? Who’s party?”

“Jesse’s party. It’s nothing too big, just a group of people, and we are going to be hanging out on the beach with a bonfire. What do you say? Want to come?”

I ponder about it for a while, because as much as I would love to spend time with Landon, I also just wanted to be lazy tonight.

After weighing out the options, I finally decide on one. “Sure, I’ll come,” I tell Landon. “But I am not going to get drunk, because I really don’t want to have to deal with a headache tomorrow morning.”

Landon nods, indicating that he understands what I am saying.

“How is your little sister?” I ask, just remembering about how sweet and cute she was when I last saw her when I went to Landon’s house and I styled her hair for her.

“She’s good,” He nods his head. “She misses you though. She really likes you,” Landon brings out the word ‘really’ for more emphasise. “I swear, she always asks when you are going to come over again.”

I laugh at what he says, but not because I am laughing at her, but because it is so ridiculously cute. “Awe, well, I miss her too. She is so sweet.”

You are so sweet,” Landon replies.

That is so cheesy,” I state with a chuckle.

“I know,” He nods his head proudly, as if he’s just won some special and important award.

I gently shove his shoulder in response, with the hand that isn’t interlaced with his, as I continue to laugh at his cheesiness.

“Bye!” I wave to some of the other girls on my dance team as I am heading out of the studio, on my way to go home and take a shower and then get ready to go to the party with Landon. “See you guys next week!” I shout to them as I open the back door of my car and plop my dance bag onto the back seat. I head around the other side of the car and slip into the driver’s seat. As I am about to start the car, my phone starts ringing. I quickly check the caller ID, which reads Logan.

“Hello best friend,” I great chirpily.

“Hey,” Logan chuckles.

“What’s up?” I quiz, leaning back in my seat, not turning my car on right now.
