Mae’s POV

“Mae is that you?!” I hear my name being called as I enter the house after an excruciatingly long and tiring dance practice today.

“Yeah?” I call back as I plop my dance bag on the floor, slipping off my gray sneakers, wiggling my toes slightly as they slip out of the shoes, allowing them to get a minimal amount of air thorough the socks that I have on my feet.

I walk into the living room, detecting that that is where the sound of the voice is coming from. When I walk into the living room, I spot my dad sitting on the couch, watching the news. They aren’t reporting anything too interesting- the reporters are just talking about some fires that happened a few says ago in California somewhere.

“What’s up?” I question, sitting myself down on the comfy L shaped couch beside my dad.

“Where were you last night?” My dad queries, turning his attention from the TV over to me.

“Umm,” I drag out, trying to think of a quick little white lie so that I won’t have to tell my dad that I was on a date with Landon, because even though my dad is super cool and collective, I just think it might be weird telling him I went on a date, and I know that once I tell him that, he’ll want to meet the guy I went out with, and I just don’t want that at all.

“Don’t even try to lie to me, Mae,” He warns after a few seconds of silence with the only noise coming from the television, giving me a look that I think is suppose to scare me.

I sigh in defeat, knowing that there is no way of winning this battle, unless I come out with the truth. “I went on a date.”

“So I’ve heard,” He nods his head slowly. “With who? ” My dad asks, crossing his arms over his chest.

“Logan told you, didn’t she?” I laugh, knowing just how easy it can be to get some type of information out of Logan, sometimes.

“Don’t avoid the question, Mae,” My dad sternly says.

“Landon- I went on a date with Landon,” I give in, telling my dad just who exactly I went on a date with, since he seems so adamant about knowing.

“Who’s Landon?”

“He’s a guy I go to school with,” I shrug my shoulders.

“I want to meet him,” My dad deadpans, looking away from me and back at the TV, just as the break for the commercials end and the news appears once again on the television.

I roll my eyes at my dad, because I totally seen this coming. “We only went out once,” I justify, sighing quietly.

“So? I still want to meet him.”

“Can you at least way until we become a couple- if we become a couple?” I try to reason with my dad, even though I doubt Landon and I will become a couple because he’s just such an awesome guy, and I’m just me. Either way, I just think  it wouldn’t be fair to Landon for him to have to go through the whole ‘meet-the-parents’ thing after only one date.

“Fine,” My dad breathes out a big sigh, finally agreeing with me on this.

“Thank you,” I tell him, standing up from the couch, heading upstairs to go get a shower, because I am incredibly sweaty from dance practice.

I make a quick trip into the foyer where I left my dance duffle bag. I grab the bag, taking it up the stairs with me. When I get upstairs I head into my bedroom, dropping my duffle bag on the ground, crouching down to get my dirty towel and sport jacket out of it. I stuff the dirty items into the laundry basket in my bathroom before grabbing a new pair of black yoga pants that have a thin line of white fabric going down the side facing outwards of each leg, and a flow-y white tank top and some undergarments, since I have nothing really planned for the rest of the night, just to lie around in my room and relax.
