Mae’s POV
The morning after the bonfire, I wake up with a huge grin plastered on my face. Ever since I started talking to Landon last night, this smile just couldn’t seem to leave. It’s like its been tattooed on forever.
I push back my covers and slide out of my bed, my feet landing with a light thud on the ground. I stretch my arms out and let out a big yawn. I walk over to my closet, choosing some clothes for today before going into my bathroom.
I start to get ready for the day- I take a warm shower, then brush my teeth and hair.
After I am completely dressed, I decide to go get something to eat and sprint down the stairs and into the kitchen.
“Morning,” I chirp to my brother, who is sitting on a stool at the island counter thing that is placed in the middle of the kitchen, hence the reason it’s called an island.
“Um,” He swallows his food, raising an eyebrow in question. “Morning. What’s got you in such a good mood?”
“Me? Nothing,” I insist, taking out a bowl form a cupboard.
“Right,” He sarcastically agrees, nodding his head before stuffing his mouth full of cereal.
“Exactly,” I nod, smiling even wider than I was moments before. I take out some Lucky Charms, filling my bowl with the delicious cereal. I poor some milk into the bowl as well, grab a spoon, and then I head over to the island, pulling out one of the stools that is beside Miles before plopping down on it. “So, did you have fun at the bonfire last night?” I ask, scooping some of my breakfast onto my spoon.
Miles shrugs his shoulders. “Yeah, I guess.”
“You guess?” I quiz, munching on a whole bunch of the marshmallows from the cereal- the marshmallows are like, the best part.
“Yeah,” He replies, finishing off his food.
“Okay, then,” I laugh, staring at my weird and secretive brother as he walks over to the sink, rinsing off his bowl and placing them in the dishwasher. “Have you seen Logan at all?” I quiz.
“Nope,” He denies, turning back around so that his back isn’t towards me and I can see his face. “Not since last night.”
“Last night?” I ask, furrowing my eyebrows in confusion.
“Yeah, we hung out a bit at the party. I kind of told her to stay away from Bailey.”
“Why would you do that?” I munch on my cereal, finishing the last bits of it off.
“Because he’s bad news,” Miles responds, shrugging his shoulders.
At that moment the house landline rings, which is a bit odd considering the fact that no one really uses it too often. Everyone usually uses their cell phones, so in result the landline never rings.
I nit my eyebrows together, wondering who could be calling the house phone, as my brother bounds over to the phone which is sitting on its dock in the corner of the marble counter in the kitchen.
“Hello?” Miles answers the phone, his tone laced with discombobulation.
The person on the other end replies, I’m guessing, while Miles stays silent, before he hands me the phone saying, “It’s for you.”
I take the phone form Miles’ outstretched hand, slowly raising it to my ear, mouthing, “Who is it?” to Miles.
He just smirks in response before retreating out of the kitchen, leaving me alone with this unknown person on the phone.
