That morning I finally slept after watching over Effie the whole night. That girl is such a handful. It was the weekend so I figured she could just bunk in my room. After all we rarely hang out anymore.

"Goodnight Effie" I say.

"Goodnight Ced" She smiles at me.

I turn around and start heading back to my room. I hear her door close behind me.

Effie and I spent the day together goofing off. It reminded me a lot of how it was last year.

I smiled to myself thinking about the day we had. I sat down at my desk chair. Scanning over the words in my book. All I did lately was study spells and when I wasn't reading I was training my spells vigorously.

The sun had just set behind the trees outlining the castle. I had sat there for a few hours studying.

After I realized how late it had gotten I went to go do my nightly stroll as per prefect duties.

I slipped out of the hufflepuff commons and walked around the castle. I walked around making sure no one was doing anything wrong.

I never really felt right as a prefect. It was fine I suppose. My dad suggested it to Dumbledore and it kinda just happened. I never wanted to be a prefect. It seemed a bit too uptight for me. The lot always teased me about it. Being a goody two shoes or something like that. It did have it's perks. I loved the aspect of being a big brother to the 1st years. That really helped me sometimes.

{ Last year }

The rain had gotten really bad. The thunder was horrendous. No sign of it stopping soon. Classes had ended a couple of hours ago and you were wandering the castle. You were rushing back to the commons to get cover.

You stepped in drenched head to toe in water. You stepped and took off your jumper. You looked at the couch. One 1st year girl was sitting alone with her head in her hands. You quickly dried off as much as you could. She looked anxious. You frowned.

The lightning struck again followed by a loud thunder. The girl shrieked and flinched. You walked up to her and wrapped your arms around her. You put your hand on the top of her head.

The way my mom used to hold me when I was scared of big storms.

She started sniffling.

"Oh it's okay. Don't cry! I'm here it's okay sweetheart." You murmur to her.

You hold on to her rubbing her back. She stops sniffling slowly. You pull her out of your chest and look at her.

"Are you gonna be okay?" You ask gently.

She nods.

"You're Chloe right? I remeber the other prefect Sabrina told me about you."

She smiles weakly.

"Alright why don't you go up to your bedroom and get ready for bed? Okay?"

"No" she whispers.

"No? Why not may I ask?"

"I-im scared."

"Oh okay that's fine I guess I'll just stay here until you're not scared anymore!"

She laughed.
