It was a very crisp november morning of the first task. Everyone was getting ready for the day ahead of them. Cedric prepared from his weeks of training. Effie excited and nervous to see how Cedric would do. Tyler curious on how the event would play out. Fred and George ready to take money for bets on who would win.

The sun had just risen as Cedric woke up. He had to start early as his father was coming to the castle today. He got ready as he put on some casual clothes before the actual event. He went to the grand hall to await his father. His mum was rather too busy with work to come.

Effie had a much later start. She had gotten up a few hours after the sun rose. She eagerly got ready and headed down to the great hall to eat breakfast.

"So Ced you ready for the big day?" Amos Diggory asked Cedric.

"Yes father I'm prepared. I just hope the other champions can say the same." Cedric wore a proud smirk.

"That's my boy" Amos chuckled at him.

The pair were talking in the great hall at the hufflepuff table.

Cedric and his father spoke and joked around for awhile.

Cedric and his father had a rocky relationship. Cedric could tell his father wanted the best for him yet he always felt so forced. He just wished his father cared about what he wanted sometimes. Cedric thought that he was incapable of making those decisions most of the time because he thought he is only as successful because of his father's decisions. His father always tried to do what he thought would be best for Cedric's reputation. He wanted Cedric to live a proud happy life.

Effie had entered the hall to find some food. Cedric spotted her immediately and waved her to come.

"Ah Mr Diggory!" Effie exclaimed when she approached the table.

"Effie!" Amos said happily. "How many times do I have to say it! Call me Amos please"

Effie laughs.

"It's so good to see you! I don't think I've seen you since last summer! How's your dad?" Amos asked the girl.

"Ah yes! He's doing well." Effie said.

"That's good. Tell him I said hello!" Amos said.

"Yes will do! Alright I'm gonna go get food but enjoy your time here!" Effie said leaving the table.

"Okay see you later Effie" Amos said. After she was out of earshot Amos said "Such a lovely girl Ced. You're lucky to know her. She reminds me of your mother."

Cedric lowered his eyebrows at this. His mother? That was a strange observation on Amos' end.

They continued their conversation.

As Effie walked away from their table she got some food and sat at the opposite end of the hufflepuff table.

Tyler walked up and sat down.

Effie stood up.

"Effie wait" Tyler said.

"Make it quick" She said sitting back down.

"So the big day today?" He said.

"Sure" She said not entertaining him.
