Effie

You left the gryffindor common rooms and walked out of the painting. The fat lady yelled at you sleepily for sneaking around but you could care less. You still weren't tired. After all that happened last year it was difficult for you to get sleep. You wandered around the halls bored. You saw Luna Lovegood walking around. She had her eyes closed though?

"Hello?" You said

She snapped awake. "Oh I'm sorry. Sometimes I sleep walk you see that's why I wear shoes to bed!" She says

"Oh okay. Well goodnight" you say

She wonders back in the direction of the ravenclaw dorms. You continue walking into the courtyard. You slumped onto a pillar near the entrance. You started humming to yourself an old lullaby your mom used to sing to you. You just sat there looking into the stars thinking. All these stars look like little specks. I mean who's to say humans aren't the same. Just meaningless specks. You sat there lost in your thoughts until you heard a voice.

"Can't sleep?" Cedric said

"Yeah." You said

"Me either." He said as he slumped next to you. He put his head on your shoulder.

"Cedric?" You say

"Yeah?" He says

"I think um I have to tell you something. Well actually never mind it's stupid" you say

"No! No no tell me!" He says

"Well I think, no just nevermind" you trail off. You got embarrassed and got up and ran off to the dorms.

"Hey! Effie! Where are you going?" He called after you.

"I'm sorry got to go!" You said

You ran up the stairs and into the kitchen straight to the three barrels. You quickly knocked them over and entered. You ran up the girls stairs and plopped on your bed. Were you really about to tell Cedric how you feel? Now he's gonna keep asking till he gets an answer. You messed this all up Effie! You thought to yourself. You slipped into sleep.

You woke up the next morning even more stressed as the thought has become more real. You have to come up with a lie to tell Cedric. You quickly got dressed and ready and headed down for breakfast. Plan A was that maybe he would forget or not ask. You walked up to the hufflepuff table and sat down.

"Hey" Cedric said.

"Hi" you said shoving a piece of fruit in your mouth.

"Soo" he said.

"So?" You said.

"Are you gonna explain what happened last night" Cedric said.

"What do you mean?" You said.

"You don't remember?" He said.

"No the last thing I remember was the twins giving me something actually" you said.

"Oh." He said.

You hoped that would make him stop asking questions.

"Stupid pranks" he scoffed.

"Yeah" you laughed. You sighed quietly out of relief and got up to go to class.

"See you later Ced" you said.

"See ya" Cedric said.

You walked to class. You sat down. You didn't pay attention. You just zoned out. Cedric has known you since first year. Why all the sudden do you like him? He should be like a brother. Or maybe something more? Is it bad I'm thinking of him like this?

"Miss Green?" Snape said.

Shit you thought. "Sorry what professor?" You said.

"Just pay attention" Snape said.

"Of course" you replied.

After a long boring few classes it was lunch. You shook off your thoughts and sat down.

"Hey Cedric how are you?" You said happily maybe a bit too happy.

"Um Effie are you okay? You never ask how I am" Cedric said.

"Gosh I didn't know it would be that awful if I asked how you were" You said upset. You walked off

You walked to the one spot you always go to when your upset. You slumped into the empty closet. It was ideal for alont time. It was quiet and a  pretty abandoned area of the castle and incase anyone walked by it was soundproof through a spell of course. Only you and Cedric knew about it. You turned on music and layed down. You let the song absorb you and you closed your eyes. This sucks. You sighed. This year was supposed to be the best. It was supposed to be different. You haven't screwed it up that much have you? It's just feeling for a guy. Should be over soon enough... Right?

You hear a knock.

"Effie? Are you in there?" Cedric said.

Damn it. Why did I have to go to the place where Cedric could find me. Luckily you locked the door before you started becoming a mess. You quickly said the words to get rid of the soundproof spell.

"Possibly but if she is she wants you to leave" you said.

"Can I come in?" Cedric said.

"Hmm no" you said.

He sat against the door.

"What's wrong with you Effie? After last year you've been acting different." He said

For some reason that sentence hit you and your eyes started watering.

"Um just school and stress? I guess" you said trying to make your voice sound normal.

"Effie are you crying?" Cedric said.

damn it you thought.

"N-no?" You said sniffling.

Why does the human body betray the mind sometimes.

"Effie let me in!" He said.

"Cedric I can't" you said.

"Effie." He said.

"Cedric you don't understand. I- I just" you said

Too late he picked the lock with his wand. Somtimes I hate having magic.

"Aw Effie" He said hugging you tight. He wiped your tears and held you.

After letting you cry for a few minutes he held your face up to look at him.

"Effie let me in. What's wrong?" He said looking you straight in the eyes.

You couldn't make eye contact. Your stomach was going insane. Your literally crying right now why are you thinking about snogging Cedric?

You didn't speak.

"Effie please. What's wrong?" Cedric said.

You just hugged him. What would you even tell him? There's about a million thoughts going into these tears. Your life sucked.

He just held you. That night you two just sat there in each other's presence and savored it. This is what you love about Cedric. As much as he wants to know what's wrong he's also understanding. He knows his limits.
