Chapter 79. Into the Jaws of Despair

Evelynn POV

Our first order of business was to head north and check for any Void Mana readings. First demons show up to capture me but they take our Seraphine instead. No doubt to make me come to them. Then some murderer shows up and puts my darling through hell. Before the end of the day, people may see me for the monster I can be. I wouldn't care. Let the media go crazy all they want. No one touches my family.

Caitlyn: Is this a good spot Jayce?

Jayce: As good as it can be.

He pulls out a large ball like contraption from the trunk and sets it down. It starts beeping and for a few minutes nothing seems to happen until its beeping goes into a straight alarm. A panel then pops out so Jayce overlooks it a little.

Jayce: These coordinates...

Vi: Where are they?

Jayce: At the old Piltover Temple but that shouldn't be possible. That place was buried decades ago.

Evelynn: They're demons Jayce. Don't underestimate what they can do.

Caitlyn: They're no doubt expecting us so we better be careful.

We hope right back into our vehicles and drive to the location.

Archvile POV

My masters flower begins to glow again. I quickly hold it up and answer too him.

Archvile: You summon me master?

Elga: Merely an update Archvile. I'm sending one of my most trusted Lieutenants to assist you. This should make up for Chi You. Have you disposed of Starscream?

Archvile: His whereabouts are unknown too us. He is hiding.

Elga: Or maybe, closer than you can see.

I note what he says and quickly realize I am not alone in this room. The fire is shot out of my hands as bullets pierce my arm and back. I pop my neck in response and teleport the foolish machine. Though he was invisible due to his Void Powers, I knew exactly where he was. I blast him with an energy ball, forcing him to decloak and crash into a pillar.

Archvile: Most unwise to come back after your failure.

Starscream: And be held responsible for one causality? I'd rather take my chance killing you all and living to fight another.

Archvile: You should split that into two.

He turns his hand into a rocket launcher and fires at me. I raise a firewall that absorbs the blast. I send a pair of fire trails at him. Forcing him to transform and take another energy ball. He's far to predictable. He transforms again but this time I teleport and grip him by the head and slam him into the ground. He pulls out what I would assume was his mace or rather what's left of it and lodges it into my neck. That one actually hurt. I lift him up and blast him into another room. This one happen to be the one the prisoner was being held in. Runu was clearly busy speaking with her before I intruded.

Runu: Oh, if it isn't Starscream.

Seraphine: You have a robot?

Runu: Had would be a better word.

Starscream shoots back up in a sloppy manner and points his gun arm at the prisoner but Runu stands in front of her. And odd act despite the fact that Wraith wanted her in healthy condition but I pay it no mind.

Starscream: If you want that dumb girl to live, you'll cease your attacks!

If I had eyebrows, one would be raised so high it might as well be fixed there. Runu bursts into laughter while all I could do is shake my head. This was nothing short of embarrassing and stupid.

Archvile: This is all you could think of? Should've just stayed away then attempt to fight us.

Starscream: And be hunted later on?

Runu: You could've at least waited for your not backup.

Baron runs into the room.

Baron: What the hell is all the ruc- Oh, the bucket of bolts came.

He then fires his gun but Runu raises a shield that blocks them. Baron charges the machine and tackles him to the ground. The pummeling of scrap could be hear but Starscream fires a point blank rocket and flies off.

Archvile: Deal with him.

Baron: Finally.

He storms off after the machine. He might not catch him but Fury is outside so even if he manages to escape this temple, he won't get far. I turn to Runu who was checking on the prisoner.

Archvile: What are you doing?

Runu: Just making sure she's not dying.

Arcvhile: You've spent a lot of time speaking with her. Why?

Seraphine: I'm just telling her what she wants to know.

I turn to Runu who bites her bottom lip.

Archvile: What exactly?

Runu: I.... may have been curious of why Evelynn would come here.

She called her Evelynn? What exactly can make this Man'ari change attitude so quickly. She's normally all over her magics that she hardly spends time talking.

Archvile: Why exactly?

Runu: I'm just curious.

Seraphine: Please....

Archvile: Hm?

Seraphine: She just wanted something peaceful...

Evelynninye? She is a demon, the Eldest Daughter of Succubi. Peace should hardly be a thought in her mind but I'll humor the thought.

Runu: I was just wondering what could've made her choose this. Why would a demon choose to come down to earth like this?

Seraphine: There's always more to life than just what you were born to do. You can be your own person too. Everyone has the ability to choose.

Hope is stitched into her every word. Thinking on it now, I don't think I've ever considered a life outside of my service. I should confirm what this girl is saying before I complete my mission.

Archvile: Do not speak with this girl again. That is an order.

Runu: Of... course....
