18. Captured..... Again?

There's a faint sound of howling in the distance which makes me sit up in alarm, I feel my body tense up at the familiarity of the howl, I listen as the howl ends out in a low rumble.

It's Jane. Oh shit.

I look towards Jessica rubbing her eyes in the tree opposite to us, the howl gets louder and she snaps her eyes towards the forest floor and starts to scale down the tree as I hear rustling in the direction of the last howl. I look down through the many leaves and branches to see Jane at a light jog emerge from a bush not too far away, both me and Caleb follow her with our eyes and watch her smash into Jessica with a big warm hug, oh how sweet, I curl my lip up in disgust at the site of her , I earn a confused look from Caleb,
"Oh my baby are you ok? Did she hurt you? So help me god if she-"
"No mum she didn't I promise", I watch as she bats her long eyelashes at her mum holding onto her arms,
I slowly look down as a warmth spreads through my arm which makes me slightly jerk back in surprise, Caleb retracts his hand and looks between his hand and my arm with slight confusion, I turn back to the pair in a reunion as he leans back careful not to make a noise,
"It's getting stronger",he mumbles almost low enough that I didn't hear him, I cock my head at him,
"What?" I whisper almost as low as he had, he looks back up at me and clenches his fist in his lap and shakes his head,
"It was a bad idea bringing her here", he whispers very quietly, I nod in agreement as I turn back to the couple as Jess begins to speak louder.

"No, no mum you don't under-"

"Jess you are not staying with them freaks you are coming back home",

"Mum he's my-"

"Come on!" I slightly flinch as Jane raises her voice at Jess and yanks her forward, Jess lets off a feral growl,
"He's my mate!" She growls out.

I feel Caleb stiffen beside me if that is even possible,
"No, honey.  We will sort this out it can't be right", Jane says to try and soothe her inching her forward.

"There's no other it's him!" She yells out as she is yanked through the forest,

"CALEB!" I hear her yell out his name a few more times until it's all quiet.

"There isn't anything for her to sort out the only way is for me to reject her and her possibly become a rogue", he says beside me answering my unsaid question.
I relax and sit back a bit letting my gaze fall on him.

"Once I sense my female then there is no hope for her", he says as guilt seeps out of him, I sigh as I look towards the way they went.

We were sitting in silence for a few minutes to make sure that they actually left when Caleb abruptly stood up making me lightly jump, he looked down at me like he knew what he was doing.

"We are going foraging come on, it should be alright now", he adds as he looks around, I stand up and pat my jeans down which earns Caleb cocking at brow at me, I scoff as I jump down with a light thud as he follows after me,
"Lead the way", I say as I step aside, he walks by with a smirk and starts to walk ahead.

We walk for about fifteen to ten minutes when he looks back and smiles and leads me into a patch of large bushes crowded by trees, my mouth automatically goes into an o shape as I inspect the area, I quickly become alert as I hear rustling throughout the trees,
"Only monkeys", Caleb tells me holding out his palm to me.
He leads me over to a raspberry bush and hands me a hand woven bag to collect them in,
"You collect these while I get the others, there won't be much as these suckers would have got most of them" A monkey screams in the distance which makes me puff up and my tail swish about, I instantly know it's an alert call,
"Probably a big cat", I furrow my eyebrows at him as he makes a 'roar' face with a claw, I roll my eyes as I begin to pick the little raspberries that is left, I'm still on high alert though, I watch as he sets to work relaxed as ever.
