17. Crush

"Uuuugh" I groan as I swat away the invading hands grasping onto my upper arm, I smile as the hands move away, ah finally.
Then they come back but rocking me side to side with a lot more force, I sit up with my hands in the air defeated,
"Alright alright I'm awake jeez", I rub my eyes as I hear a chuckle, I look up to see Caleb beaming at me, I cock my brow at him which he shrugs off, he reaches towards me again but instead helps me up.
"Come on I want to show you something", he urgently tugs on my arm like how toddler tugs on your trouser leg with the little puppy dog eyes, I slightly smile at the thought,
"Don't forget about me!" We both look over to Jessica waving at us from where she stood in the nest opposite us. I roll my eyes as we jump down as Jess begins to clamber down, she pats herself down and stands back up and looks at us,
"What? " she asks as she crosses her arms, her gaze lingering towards Caleb a second too long, my feathers slightly fluff up but I quickly peel them back to my body, I clear my throat which gains her to flick her penetrating gaze at me,
"If you jumped from that height what would happen?" I ask her as I look back up to the nest she climbed down from, she makes a hum as she ponders for a few seconds, she raises her eyebrows as she begins her speech,
"Well say good bye to my legs, but it wouldn't be as bad as a human though, they would more or likely break their back as well, why?" She finishes with her eyes darting between the both of us, I'm about to tell her but Caleb swats my leg with his tail and he rushes out,
"Nothing we was just wandering", I glare at him from underneath my lashes as he gives her a quick smile, out of my peripheral she slightly smiles but quickly looks away from him....

Did I just see her blush?

I blink away the thoughts as I turn towards Caleb,
"Ok so you need to follow me carrying Jess-" he's cut off by an excited squeal from in front,
"Anyway, follow me and you will see what I want to show you", he winks at me which in return I give him a dramatic eyeroll.

As I make my way over to Jess she is glaring towards Caleb and huffs, I get behind her ready to grab her and she lifts her arms for me,
"You alright?" I ask her as I hold her tight,
"Yeah, fine", she doesnt take her eyes off of Caleb the whole time.
I wrap my tail around her legs the tightest I can, not gonna lie my tail has gotten pretty strong the past few days.
I wait until Caleb shoots off until I start to follow him, he starts to follow a small stream that leads into a river.
"Woah", me and Jess say in unison as we watch a beautiful fountain appear at the end of the river, I smirk as I head over the water and open my arms and tail letting a screaming Jess fall into the depths.
I land on the cliff edge near the water, Caleb lands next to me slightly catching my arm with his wing.
"You coming?" He says after he folds in his wings,
"Yeah just have to go do my business", I say with a small laugh, he catches on and quickly dives off towards the water.

I quickly come back out from doing what I need to do and stand on the cliff edge gazing down at the water, Jess and Caleb are laughing at each other while splashing the water over eachother, I spread my wings and divedomb the pair sending them both a wave of water from my wings.
We are all laughing and splashing the water, but I can't help but notice that Jess seems a little too interested in Caleb, I laugh at the thought earning a confused look from Caleb,
"I'll tell you later", I say low enough in his ear so Jess wouldn't hear, he subtly nods and we carry on doing what we were doing.

After an hour or so of messing around in the water we spend about five minutes drying our wings keeping them slightly open and slowly flapping, while Jess rings her hair out beside us.
Once mine and Caleb's wings are dry, I pick Jess up like usual and start to head on back to the nest.

We make it back and I touch down by the nest as Caleb goes up to the food storage to grab some food for us all, I gaze up at him as he glides down, I cock my head at him as he walks past me, he gives Jess a meat chunk folded in leaves and he pulls me to aside,
"What if she goes back and she tells everyone what we can do, I don't want that risk for us", I widen my eyes at the realisation as I peek a look at Jess slowly unfolding her dinner,
"That's why you were going slow",I add lowly, he nods as he passes me a meat chunk in leaves,
"We can eat the leaves by the way anything that's poisonous to a regular human won't harm us", he explains just as Jess comes up to us holding out the meat in leaves,
"You're not going to cook this?" She asks staring at Caleb and I, my chest slightly constricts as I bat my eyes to Caleb,
"I thought you wolves ate raw meat", he says in wander as my heart slows a notch, she shakes her head with her brows knitted together, he begins a fire and quickly adds her meat on it, he takes mine and puts it to aside, I narrow my eyes at him,
"Aren't you guys going to eat?" She asks as she looks between us and the meat in calebs hand that he just stole from me,
"Nah we got some fruit up there that needs to be eaten", he simply explains as he goes back to twirling the sizzling piece of meat on a stick,

"Want to go for fly while your meat is cooking?" I ask Jess as she snaps her head away from caleb, she hesitates before nodding and standing up. I grab her and soar towards the sky, we went about a mile or two before she spoke.
" Can we go back?" I furrow my eyebrows at her, jeez she has got it bad.
I turn back around with a slight huff and head back to the nest, I feel her heart visibly rise when she sees Caleb, strange.

I help Jess up into the nest with Caleb, as soon as her feet touch the nest she  she scurrys over next to Caleb I slightly focus more on Jess as she settles next to him and unravels her perfectly cooked dinner, I gladly eat a pile of berrys that Caleb had made for me,
"Why did you come back so early?" Caleb asks, my hand freezes half way to my mouth as I snap my eyes up at him, he slightly narrows his eyes at me which makes me gulp,
"I was just really hungry", Jess says with a shrug huddling closer to Caleb as she licks her fingers of the steaks juices, I inhale as I look back down to the bunch of different berries and fruit within my lap.

I'm in the middle of using my claw to cut out each individual little ball in my BlackBerry when I hear a soft snore, I look up to see Jess in my spot with her head on Calebs chest and her hand in his waistband of his jeans.
I widen my eyes as I notice his stiff form, he is flat on his back staring straight up through the trees, I could tell by how tense and pulled his features was that he was pretty uncomfortable, he slowly lifts his head and looks up at me and mouths 'help me', I inwardly giggle as I move over to Jess and lightly shake her awake, she looks up at me with a glare and swings her leg over Caleb, I see him visibly stiffen, his muscles ripple under his shirt with anger at how bold she is being,
"If you don't move her now and I end up moving her she is going to be thrown back home", he says through gritted teeth,
I sigh and shake her awake again,
"Jess you got to go to the other nest", I softly say to her, she grumbles in response and burys her head deeper into his chest, he squeezes his eyes shut as she plunges her hand deeper through his waistband, I look down to see his hands clenched into fists and his toes curled up, claws out, I widen my eyes as I lightly pull her up,
"Why can't you go over there and let me sleep here!", she snaps at me which makes me take a step back, Caleb takes the time to wriggle free,
"I don't trust you so move", Caleb growls at her, she almost looks pained at his words, but she quickly moves and heads down the tree.
I sigh as I sit down, a piece of meat with the leaves is shoved in front of my face, I look up at Caleb who makes a gesture for telling me to eat up. I gladly take it and devour the meat.
After finishing my meal I scrunch up the leaves and quite literally inhale it, it tastes kind of sour to be honest,
"Oh the sour taste is the poison", I stop mid chew and debate whether to spit it out,
"It won't harm you", he reassures me as he takes another bite, so I carry on chewing and swallow it down.

We are both staring up at the sky when I sigh and move onto my side away from Caleb, he weaves his arm through mine and grips onto my waist, I struggle to keep back a whimper of surprise as I'm pulled towards him,
"What's up love", he asks as he intertwines our fingers, I look down at them as my fingers tingle with joy,
"Could your female be a werewolf or human?" I ask , he stops rubbing my thumb with his own and sighs,
"No it can't it has to be our kind, it's weird though because I've known of some werewolves that could have a mate with our kind but they end up just getting rejected as it's not meant to be", he says his breath fanning on my neck, if it is true then could he be Jessica's mate?

I sigh as the thoughts are washed away by the tingling in my hand and body from Calebs contact.

Even more answers but are they the right ones? Some more sparks are growing between these two but will it end up a raging fire growing out of control or will it be a slow comfort burn. Anyway find out more in the next chapter, it's just going to get better from here.
