29. Overpowered

I open my eyes as I hear the click of the curtain beginning to open, I slowly rise and stretch my wings and arms, I look up as light spills towards me like lava.
"Morning Belle", Osiris pipes up, I watch as he quickly slots in my food and opens up my cage door, I hover over to the dishes as Midnight starts to gobble down her food, I start to eat the berries out of the dish, I happen to look up as I'm licking my lips from the juices to see the boy coming towards me, he comes right up to the bars and looks inside the bowls and looks back up at me with a frown,
"What do you eat?" He questions, I roll my eyes as I look down at him,
"Anything you can eat", I reply with a smirk, he crosses his arms and huff's at me, I walk out into the open space and stretch out my wings, I flick my gaze over to Osiris' approaching form and quickly fold my wings back in and turns towards him, I gulp as he looks over me with my feathers slightly puffed up,
"Behave you two today", he looks between me and the boy,
"We got visitors", my heart drops at the thought of the boy, I look over to him concern flowing through me he notices and starts to visibly shake,
"Can't you lock him in the cage?" I ask desperately as I step towards him, he looks at me as something washes over him,
"No", he states giving me a challenging look, I wind my neck in and step away, he then resumes his walk back to the kitchen,
"What's happening?" The boy blurts out to me, I don't look at him as I stare daggers into the door, my fists clenching and I feel my eyes visibily glow,
"The visitors are more purebloods with human slaves", as soon as the words leave my mouth I regret them as the boy audibly gasps,
"What does that mean?" He voice wavers, I look at him,
"Nothing could happen and there is nothing that osiris could do to save you", I say flatly as thoughts race through my head.
I'm up on the skylight windowsill looking down at the boy fiddling with his hands when something catches my attention outside, I look out to see a group of people with humans behind them in chains, my heart picks up and my breathing quickens at the boys safety, I look down as Osiris quickly gets up and stands at the door just in time for a knock to be heard, he quickly opens the door to greet the people who eventually start filtering in,
"Oh Osiris you got yourself a new slave, well done love", a female pureblood congratulates Osiris as she gazes over at him,
"Yes he is very well trained", he adds with a smile, I notice one pureblood go straight to my cage and stops at the open door, he turns and goes to Osiris,
"Where's the hybrid?" At this question everyone looks towards the cage dumbfounded that it was open, they all start looking up and their gazes land on me, I feel suddenly cornered even though I'm very high up right now, they all goggle then get back to what they usually do.

After about thirty minutes of watching, Osiris asks the boy to fetch something from his room, but on his way to his room he accidentally knocks a purebloods elbow, the pureblood is disgusted, he stands and backhands the boy so hard he knocks him flying into the bars of my cage, my blood instantly boils and I'm soon soaring over to the boy laying limp with the pureblood soon making his way over to him, I land just above him and go into a protective crouch over him my wings unfolded and covering him from view, my tail is a puffed up mess as it swings above the boys head.
The pureblood is stopped in his tracks as he looks down at me in surprise, I let deep growls roll off of me in waves which obviously shocks the pureblood. He tilts his head at me and looks back to Osiris, I look over to him for a split second to see him wide eyed staring at me, I glance back up at the pureblood as he turns back towards me as the boy begins to stir then he freezes and his breathing picks up. The pureblood advances again licking his lips, I lunge forward with a loud hiss which makes him flinch back and stop in his tracks again but then his face lifts and he starts to laugh, I pin my eyes at him as my feathers shake with anger then he lunges at me and I hiss and lunge at him, my claws connect with him and I bite down into his shoulder, he grunts as I bat my wings trying to shake his hold from me but he throws me towards the other purebloods, I connect with the floor with an oomph on my side, I look up to see the others curiously looking at me and Osiris descending on me, I quickly hop up and dart towards the pureblood looming over the boy, I roar out and jump onto his back and dig my toe claws into his back and start slashing away at the back of his head, neck and back, he crys out as he throws his arm behind him to grab me but I dodge and bite through his hand, he flings me forward and I quickly go back over the boy who is retreating into the cage, I stay in front of him as the pureblood looks at me with pure death, he's in front of me within seconds and grabbing me by my throat, he throws me down to the ground as I leave a slash on his cheek, I squeak out as he throws punches towards me I cover my face until I hear a sickening crack, I scream out and try to lead him away from the boy but he pulls me back by my wings and holds me in a choke hold,
"You will not disrespect me hybrid", he says before I feel a sting in my neck, I gasp as adrenaline kicks in, I bring my hand up and plunge two fingers straight into his eye, he pulls back choking, he throws me into the bars and I fall to the floor with a thud.
I blink away the tadpoles in my vision to see the pureblood stalk away, the others go to his aid while sending me daggers of hatred, I look back to the entrance to see the boy huddled up in the corner his face wet with tears, he sees me trying to get up and quickly runs over,
"Oh no I'm so sorry i-i didn't me-" I cut him off with a growl and he shuts up, he hooks an arm under mine and starts to drag me into the base of the tree,
"It's fine", I say as I sit myself into a sitting position, I look down at my arm which is contorted in a horrible way, I wince as I slowly start to straighten it out, I hang my head back and take some much needed deep breaths, I touch my hand to my neck to feel two small scabs on the base of my neck, I slowly open my eyes as I look down at the boy,
"How do vampires turn you?" I croak at him, he blinks as he looks at my hand covering my neck,
"They bite you and inject venom", he quickly says,
"Can I have a look?" I nod and move my hand from my neck, relief washes over his features as he casts his eyes down to my black and blue arm,
"It's good he didn't have enough time to inject you", I make a phew sound and let my hand drop limp against my side,
"Thank you for saving me", I look down at him, his face scrunches up as new tears begin to fall down his pink cheeks, I sigh and grab onto his leg and pull him over, he looks up at me startled, I hold my arms out to him, he doesn't move looking terrified, I groan as I yank him into my arms and hold my wing over him. It doesn't take him long until he is quietly sobbing into my shoulder cuddling my side.

I open my eyes as I look over my wing towards the retreating group of purebloods, I let out a long breath as I look down at the sleeping form of the boy with his head in my lap with my wing covering his body and my tail wrapped around him, Midnight is wedged in my lap with only her little head poking out, I look up to lock eyes with Osiris.
He strides over and crouches down at the gate,
"Why did you do that you could have gotten yourself killed", he says with venom dripping off his tone, I look down at the rise and fall of the boys chest,
"I couldn't let him die", I whisper more to myself than to Osiris, I look up to see him shake his head and go back out into the room.
I wrap my wing back over me and close my eyes just as Osiris closes the gate and the curtain, he doesn't say goodnight so I know I'm in deep trouble.
