I wiped the sweat off my face with the towel on my neck. I fixed my strawhat and looked up, which was a bad idea. I was blinded by the sun in the midday.
I shook my head and continued plowing. I almost got three-fourths of the field. Few more weeks and the soil will be ready for my coffee beans.
"Jeonghan-hyung!" A girl called from the gate.
"Oh, Gahyeon."
I walked to her. It's funny how time flew so fast. The first time I saw her was from the diner. I remembered she rejected Hoshi when he asked her number. She's a grown woman now. I feel proud even though I didn't raise her.
"Isn't it holiday today? You should be resting, hyung."
"I got nothing to do, so it's fine."She looked at the field so I looked at it too. It's very satisfying to watch from this distance. My hardwork.
"It must be hard, doing this alone." She said.
"It is. But I'm happy with it. Why are you here?"
"Oh, mom baked some pie. She said this is the only gift she can give."She handed me a sealed box with a clear lid. The apple crumble made me hungry.
"This is a lot. Please tell her that I appreciate it. Anyway, what are your plans for new year's eve?"
"Nothing special. Just food and fireworks."Beep beep
We both turn and saw a metallic red sedan.
"They're here."
The car parked inside our compound and two men in brown coats and one in casual fit came down.
"Good afternoon, detectives." Gahyeon bowed.
"Come on, I'm just a humble police officer." Hoshi said.
"A police officer, I don't know about the humble." Chan commented.
"And I am the humble detective." Seokmin ran to us."Haha you guys are energetic as always. I'll go now."
We all waved her good bye and without saying it, we went inside the house.
"You should rest a little, hyung." Hoshi placed three gift boxes near the couch. Chan placed three paper bags beside it.
"Soonyoung is right."
A very cute man strolled in the living room coming from the bedroom.
"Shua-hyung!" Chan ran to him and pushed his wheelchair.
"Wait, wait don't push too fast."
Seokmin and Hoshi sat in front of Joshua's wheelchair.
"How are you?" Seokmin asked.
"Still nothing. Can't walk and can't remember." Joshua smiled.I went close and brushed his hair.
"I'm okay, Jeonghan. I'm making new memories with you."
"I know."
"You should take a bath."
"Oh."So I left the four of them in the living room while I take a shower. I need to freshen up, since more guests will be coming later.
People had moved on with their lives these past ten months. It will be good to see them all and catch up.
Well, those three are always visiting us. Just like what Joshua said, making new memories.
Though a not-so-old memory still hunts me every night: how I shot my uncle in his skull. Fortunately, Joshua's always by my side and comforts me at night.
But he doesn't know what's hunting me. He doesn't remember it. He doesn't remember anything.
I wanted to tell him about it, but I can't. Not only that I can't bother him with that memory, but I just cannot say it. So he just assures me that he's here for me.
