That was me being boastful again.
I promised in front of Jeonghan's mom's ashes that I will keep him alive. But now that I learned that more people, almost everyone in the mafia, is after me, I'm dead.
While driving back to Gangnam, I felt like taking my words back again. I really wanted to leave Jeonghan behind all of this.
But after hearing all of it from Taehyung, Jeonghan doesn't look bothered at all. He also kept on asking me when's Chan's last day in school. I told him it's three more days.
And now, it's two more days left before Chan's autumn break. The day everyone's been preparing for. All of us are going to look for Nico again.
That includes my friend Seokmin. He called me today because apparently he has something to discuss to me. He stopped by the condo and drove towards the bakeshop at the entrance of the Chinatown.
"It's my first time here, though I always have their goods." I said as we entered.
"It's my first time, too. Do they have good bread?"
"Yeah! I like their pizza bread."
"Gotta try that one."
We ordered and proceeded to our seat. Before he could start his discussion, I relayed all the information I got from Taehyung.
I feel bad for telling him these. It was a lot, and it was the information all detectives are thirstin for. But since he wants to help me, he needs to keep these to himself. I am putting too much burden on him.
"Hmm. I see." He put his hand on his chin. I saw the wound he got back in the restaurant.
I have tended to his wounds for the past two weeks. I told him to come to my clinic so I can help. I really owe him a lot and it's the least I can do.
"Did you try to write using your hand again?" I asked.
"Not yet. But I tried firing with my left hand. I'm actually getting better at it. I'm gonna be an ace shooter when I perfected it."
"Hahaha. Seokmin, you're all ready are."
"You.. think so?"
"Of course!"
"Ahhh. Anyway. That information is very interesting. The thing is, the higher ups who commanded me to never report anything to the Hongs are Nico's dogs."
"How'd you know?"
"I was tailing one of my supervisors who went to a casino. He went inside an SUV. At first I thought that was a simple corruption. But I had a hunch that it's something bigger. When my supervisor left, I fired at the car and they fired back. I picked up the bullets and compared it to the one we got from Daegu."
"Seokmin! That was too risky. You can't even shoot well in your condition."
"All I had to do was get their attention. It was good though, now we know that we can no longer trust them."
"So, from Detective Jeon all the way to your supervisors are all Nico's men?"
"Oh. About that. Remember when you got out of the jail?"
"What's with it?"
"It was Detective Jeon who warned me. He told me that I better get the doctor before anyone could get you."
"Ahhhh my head hurts!" This was too much information for my head.
"Hahaha I'm sorry. But, I saw an opportunity to ask Detective Jeon."
"Can I go with you?"
"This might be dangerous."
"And I might be some kind of help."
"Sure. Two of us tonight, then."
Our destination tonight is the gated community in the rich area of Gangnam.
"Detective Jeon can't own a house in a gated community. If I would assess his assets, he isn't this rich. He can't afford a land here."
"These are nice houses."
"Nice? These are huuuge."
"Ah. Yeah, huge."
Seokmin reacts like this when he saw these houses. I wonder how will he react when he saw my house, especially the dining hall.
Speaking of dining, I forgot to tell Chan that I can't cook tonight. I better send him a message.
As soon as I tapped the send button to Chan, I received a new message from Jeonghan.
"Hey. Clinic tonight?"
I replied
"Nah. I'm out with Seokmin."
"Hey, Joshua. I think this is the house. It's similar with this photo."
Seokmin showed me a photo, but it's very blurry. But color matches it.
"So, we'll just have to wait here?" I asked.
"Yeah. Just for a while."
To waste our time, we played card games inside. As when I was about to win, my phone rang, a call from Jeonghan
"Hey."
"Hey?! Where are you?"
"I told you, out with Seokmin."
"Where?"
"Here at-"
"Joshua, look." Seokmin pointed at a car driving towards the garage of the house.
"I'll get in touch later. Bye."
"Joshu-"
The car parked inside and saw a tall man get down of the car.
"That's Detective Jeon."
"What should we do?"
"I think Jeon is harmless. We better talk it out to him."
"Agree."
We walked towards the house, suddenly, a blade swooshed in front of my face.
"Joshua!" Seokmin pushed me behind and we both looked at the blade that pierced the ground.
That's.. the blade from my nightmare. We looked at the direction where it came from.
We saw a man in black kimono robe with pink flower petals printed on it, standing at the top of the gate.
"The8? How long have been you here?" I asked.
"Since you guys parked."
"Ah. So you're expecting us, huh?" Seokmin said.
"Not you in particular, though."
"What's happening, The8?" The man from a while ago approached the gate and he noticed us. I finally got to see his face right now. "Detective Lee??"
"Hey, Detective Jeon. What are we doing here with a hired fixer?"
"How about you, what are you doing here?"
"We just need to talk to you." I said.
"Are you Doctor Hong Jisoo?" Detective Jeon asked.
"Yes. So if we just-"
"Oops."
Another blade pierced the gate in front of me. Seokmin almost motioned to catch the blade for me but fortunately, it wasn't meant to hit me.
"Is one blade not enough to warn you?" The8 asked.
"Are you here to kill me?" I asked.
"Oh no. That assignment was from Nico. This is for my other client. Besides, I'm commanded to not lay a finger on you."
"So what is it tonight?"
"Well, my usual duty from usual client. I'm here to guard our Detective Jeon Wonwoo."
A/N: Hello! I'm sorry for the late upload huhu. So I got a part time job because it's holiday season and I don't get an allowance in this online classes huhu.
That being said, I'll be updating later than usual at most two weeks. But I'll try my best to publish earlier. Also, it's still going to be 10 chapters per update.
