Raising suspicion 2

They were sitting in the cafeteria like usual, although their sunshine was late. A few began taking notice of it and eventually asked Kageyama since he's in the same class as him. Kageyama only shrugged as he focused on his food, while the others directed their attention to Kei, hoping he'd have the answer.

Kei sat quietly, either not noticing or pretending not to notice the stare's that were directed at him. Eventually Yamaguchi spoke, asking the question they all had on their minds. "Tsukki, do you know where Hinata is?" his voice was cautious as he said it, hoping his friend wasn't thinking about anything important as he waited for a response. Eventually Kei sighed and responded "fixing his eyes" in a careless manner, not realizing what he, himself, had just said in front of the rest of the team.

Yamaguchi responded without questioning it, only saying "Oh, I see" as he began focusing on his food. "Fixing his eyes?" the team then asked Kei, confused as to what he meant as well as why Yamaguchi had responded as if he knew what he meant. At this point both Kei and Yama froze, they knew they fucked up, especially Kei.

(A/n: At this point Yamaguchi is aware Shoyo is blind and that his eyes are prosthetic.)

Thankfully Kei recovered quickly, putting on a carefree and bored expression as he said "he got something in his eyes earlier, he's taking care of it now and should be back in a moment." Luckily the team bought it, all thanks to Kei's quick save. Since Kei needed Shoyo to play along with the story, Kei excused himself saying that he'll go and "check" on him. The others just nodded as he walked away. Seeing the retreating figure of the salt shaker they began talking about something they had all noticed, and that something was a certain crush someone had on a certain sunshine.

As Kei arrived at the bathroom he knocked on one of the stalls, hoping Shoyo would be in there. "Kei is that you?" a voice asked on the other side, making him smile. "Yeah it's me, that ability of yours sure gets handy at times like these huh?" he said, making the other giggle as he opened the stall slightly, letting the other enter.

"Are your eyes okay?" Kei asked him, worried since Shoyo had been complaining over them itching the entire day. "Yeah, mostly, they're kinda itchy still, but better than before. Kei whistled and nodded, since he at this point had gotten used to the fact Shoyo could only see him when there were sounds bouncing. Giggling a little, Shoyo looked up at Kei, saying a quick "thank you" before standing up. "Shall we go?" he then asked, reaching for the handle.

Kei, now remembering what he came there for, stopped Shoyo from opening the door, then began whispering, making sure no one else other than his blind friend could hear him. "I slipped up earlier, saying you were fixing your eyes, I managed to get the others to think I meant you got something in your eyes and was currently taking care of it. So, when we return, that's the story we have to go with" once Kei finished his short, whispered, speech, he waited for Shoyo to respond.

After a few moments Shoyo nodded with a grin "that's clever" he said as he then opened the stall, taking a step out of the cramped room and out into the shared room, washing his hands out of habit before he turned to look at Kei who was just standing there. "Come on Kei, we have to hurry back, and don't worry, you didn't slip up that bad" Shoyo said with a warm voice before Kei whistled and nodded, making Shoyo chuckle quietly as he left the room, the salt shaker walking quietly behind him.

Shoyo picked up on the fact the other still felt bad about the slip-up, sighing a little he stopped and turned to where Kei was. "Kei" Shoyo called out, his voice now more stern, wanting to get the other to listen. Flinching, Kei looked to Shoyo, worried over what he was about to say. "Yeah" he responded quietly as he waited for him to continue.

"Stop it already," Shoyo said, at first not bothering to explain what he meant since he couldn't see Kei's confused expression. They both stood there for a while, neither of them saying a word until Kei eventually spoke up with a worried tone "what do you mean?" Sighing again and closing his eyes he held his head in his hands before looking back up, facing Kei. "I want you to stop blaming yourself, it's alright okay? You slipped up a little, so what?" Shoyo said, wanting to hammer the fact it was alright into Kei's worried mind.

"Okay" he eventually responded, a small smile now on his face. "Thank you Shoyo" he then added before he straightened his back, that had, at some point, begun slouching. "That's more like it" Shoyo said with a huge grin and a chipper voice as he turned on his heel and walked to the cafeteria, his friend in tow.

Once they were back in the cafeteria a few on the team asked if everything was alright to which Shoyo just smiled brightly and nodded, "I'm alright! I just had some dust in my eyes, it's all gone now!" Most of them nodded, Suga still looking a little worried but accepted it and he knew if something really was wrong he'd tell them.

The rest of lunch past by peacefully, the team joking around and just being their normal stupid selves. Kiyoko had begun getting a little worried as she looked at Shoyo who kept rubbing his eyes, but everyone else seemed preoccupied with their own stuff, not taking notice of the sunshines obvious discomfort. Kiyoko wanted to ask him about it but knew he'd just brush it off, so she stayed quiet, hoping he'd tell them on his own eventually.

Once lunch was over they all split up, going to their respective classrooms. Shoyo was getting more and more uncomfortable again and couldn't wait to get his new prosthetics due to how much trouble these ones are currently giving him. Shoyo had to resist the urge to just gauge out the prosthetic he had on the right as that one was the most annoying. He was lucky his homeroom teacher was his mother's friend, since because of that, his mother got news about the problematic prosthetics quickly.

His teacher called out to him, grabbing his and his classmates attention, "Hinata, your mother called and asked you to come meet her outside, it seemed important". As his teacher said this, realization hit Shoyo's face and he quickly picked up his things while whistling, walking confidently to the door before saying bye to everyone and leaving. He hurried to where his mother was waiting, wanting to get there quickly.

His mother smiled as soon as she saw her son running to her, "Hi Shoyo" she said with a happy voice as she saw the grin on her son's face. "Hi mom!" he half-shouted as he hugged her before she helped him into the car, putting on his seatbelt for him. Unbeknownst to Shoyo, someone saw this, someone almost the same height as him, with two colored hair and fairly sharp eyes.. a certain libero.

"Shoyo?" he voiced quietly as he watched how Shoyo's mother was helping him put on his seatbelt as he whistled, and grinned. "Why is his mother putting on his seatbelt for him?" he then added, confusion clearly evident in his voice as he looked at the sunshine and his mother. He tried to hear what they were saying but the only thing he heard was two words, "your eyes" before the doors shut and the two drove off.

"His eyes?" Noya said even more confused as he just stared in the direction the car went before he went back to the school. 'I guess I'll ask him about it tomorrow' Noya thought as he walked to class, fashionably late.
