They're lighter?
Shoyo was in the car, sitting next to his mother and talking about volleyball and the slip-up Kei had done earlier that day while rubbing his eyes. His mother giggled at her son's antics as she whistled and nodded every now and then to respond, despite the fact that in the car you don't really need to whistle for the most part since the sounds will constantly bounce, but she still did, mostly out of habit.
They were on their way to Shoyo's ocularist in order to get him to look over the prosthetics, and probably get new ones, since he had already ordered a pair a little while back, so they should be done by now. The drive was fairly long since there was no ocularist in Miyagi; they had to drive to a neighboring city about two hours away.
When they finally arrived they both sighed in relief as Shoyo's mother parked the car in a spot close by the building where the practice was located. As they got there they were told to wait for a moment before Shoyo's ocularist came to get them. Shoyo noticed him using his special vision as he came into the room to get them. Standing up before his name was called, he walked up to his ocularist. (A/n: He memorised the ocularists' silhouette a long time ago since he's known him since childhood).
"Hi there Shoyo, how are you today?" he asked with a warm voice as the boy came up to him, stopping about a meter or so away. "About that, my eyes have been itching a lot, especially my right one. I think I need to replace them," Shoyo said as he looked at him. The ocularist smiled sympathetically at him as he led them to his office where they all sat down. He began examining Shoyo's eyes, he could see the surface had become rough and that was why it was irritated, on the right it was a bit worse however, as he saw a tiny, tiny cut had been made on his inner lid due to a very small crack in the prosthetic surface.
He asked if anything had happened to get in his eye lately to which Shoyo was unsure, since the itching started a few days ago, but the problem with the right prosthetic had begun just a few hours back. "I'm not really sure, they both began itching a few days back, but my right eye only started getting like this today, I've been resisting the urge to gauge my eye out," he said to the ocularist honestly, already knowing full well something had to be wrong with the prosthetic.
The ocularist just sighed as he stood up, saying "it's a good thing you're prosthetic arrived yesterday Shoyo" before he stepped out for a moment to get the eyes from where he had safely put them away for his patients next visit to him. Grinning Shoyo thanked him as he heard him come back into the room.
"I have to warn you though Shoyo, I was unable to recreate the current eye color we've been using, I did try my best but these ones have a hue that's a little lighter compared to your usual ones. I also recommend you start wearing glasses, I know I've said it before, but it really is the best way to protect your eyes." he said to him, his voice now serious as he looked at the pouting boy in front of him. "I know.." Shoyo voiced out in response, feeling a bit down knowing he's right.
"I'll get glasses alright?" he said after a moment of silence, to which the ocularist grinned a little before saying "good, now let's get those old prosthetics switched out shall we, as well as clean that cut." Shoyo winced a little, knowing it was going to hurt when he cleaned it, despite it being very much necessary. He nodded defeated as they began, easily removing the prosthetics and putting in the new ones, although they made sure to clean the cut before putting in the right one.
"All done Shoyo," the ocularist said standing up as he put away the old prosthetics, checking his eyes one last time before letting them go for the day, reminding him about the glasses and to come back or contact him in case anything happens.
(A/n: Here I mean if anything happens with the prosthetics, if they begin itching or anything like that after about a month, and if he notices something about the cut on his eyelid. As far as I remember from what I read during research about it, the eyes can be uncomfortable for a while before you get used to them, so I'm assuming he'd be a little uncomfortable for a week or so at the least. If I'm wrong I apologize for my lack of knowledge. Feel free to correct me).
Once they left the ocularist practice they made their way to the car, Shoyo's mother helping him with his seatbelt once more before walking around to the driver's side, opening the door before sitting down and starting the engine as she put on her own seatbelt and closed the door. "Well, let's go buy some glasses shall we?" she said with a small smile, knowing her son wasn't happy about it.
"Mom?" Shoyo said in a quiet voice, making his mother worry. "Yes Sho?" she asked in a concerned tone, "he said the eyes are a different hue right? How different are they?" Shoyo asked, worried others might realize. "His mother took a quick glance to the side as she had just begun driving. "The difference isn't that big, but if someone was to pay attention to it they might realize," she said honestly, knowing it'd be better to be honest with her son right now.
"I see.." he responded quietly, he had hoped it wasn't noticeable at all. Seeing his face as he faced down, his face scrunched up and nervous, she smiled gently at him. "You know, Sho" she began as she focused on the road, "it's a good thing you're getting glasses now" she finished as she noticed she had grabbed her sons attention.
"Why..?" he asked confused, knowing it was good but not why it was good right now. "Well, you can blame your eye color on your eyesight," she said with a wide grin as she looked at her confused son, knowing full well she had to explain it to him more clearly. "Why not tell them this if you're worried.." she began before saying "My eyesight is actually kinda bad, and I've been using eye contacts which made my eyes look a little darker, I'm using glasses now, hence they look brighter".
Shoyo looked stunned at this point, surprised by his mom's clever idea. "That's perfect!" he exclaimed as he looked at his mother with a wide grin, "Thanks mom!" His mother giggled and said "you're welcome" as she once again placed her focus on the road ahead of her. As they arrived at the parking lot Shoyo asked his mom if they could get real glasses to make it more believable. Grinning his mother agreed to his idea as they went inside, explaining the situation to the people working there so they could get cooperation.
Shoyo, relieved at this point, smiled happily as he and his mother left the store, glasses now on Shoyo's face, making his mother and him giggle as he played around with them. 'I guess it all turned out alright' his mother thought as they got back to the car, making the two hour drive back home, picking Natsu up on the way since she had been staying with their grandmother while they went out.
Natsu, happy, ran up to her brother and tackled him as she saw him walking to pick her up, greeting their grandmother before returning to the car, sitting down with Natsu next to him, her giggling the entire time as she saw her big brother with glasses.
(A/n: Fun fact, the amount of times I was about to write "optician" instead of ocularist is crazy, lol)
