The cat's out of the bag 2
They had returned from the training camp, and Shoyo was nervous out of his mind as he clung onto Kei like a baby koala. To Kei he looked adorable but he was also worried for him and extremely embarrassed as everyone looked at them grinning. The team wasn't aware yet, but Shoyo had actually planned on telling them about his disability as soon as they got back, meaning he was currently experiencing a huge wave of anxiety.
As soon as they reached the gym where they were to gather before going home, Shoyo stopped momentarily and took a deep breath, tightening his grip around Kei's sleeve which he had at some point taken hold of. Kei smiled warmly at him, patting his back as they stepped inside the gym where the others were already waiting.
"Uhm, I have something to say.." was all Shoyo said as he looked down at the ground, stressing and suddenly hiding behind Kei. He was unable to face them, despite not being able to see them. The team began looking worried, but they all told him to go ahead and that they were listening. Kinnoshita voiced a quiet "take your time" as he noticed Shoyo was shaking a little.
A few minutes passed before Shoyo spoke again, his voice impossibly quiet, meaning everyone had to strain their ears to hear him. "I can't see.." The gym was quiet for a while before Noya spoke, "what did you say?" in a curious voice, since he couldn't really hear him. Kei smiled warmly at Shoyo as he glanced behind him, "Shoyo, they can't hear you if you don't speak up more."
Nodding slightly, Shoyo tried to say it louder, stopping at the "I" many times, clearing his voice. Eventually he managed to say it, loud enough for the team to hear "I- I can't see" before he hid his face against Kei's back, squeezing his eyes shut and waiting for the team to be mad at him, however, it never came.
The longer the silence stretched on, the more confused Shoyo was as he relaxed his grip on Kei's back, looking up to where Kei's face should be, unsure since he didn't whistle, with the expression of a deer in headlights. 'What's going on?' was the unspoken question he asked his boyfriend as the silence lingered on.
Kei chuckled quietly as he turned around and hugged his confused sun, saying "you can stop worrying now" as he increased his hold on him. "Eh?" was all he was able to voice out before he heard a shout "Eeeeh?!" from the whole team, scaring him as he turned into a ball in his boyfriend's arms.
"Really?! That's so amazing! How are you able to play?!" and so on was immediately followed after the initial shocked shout, leaving Shoyo stunned as he felt his eyes tear up. "You... You're not mad?" he then said quietly as he peeked out from Kei's hug, his voice shaking and breaking as he spoke. "Eh? Why would we?" was all Noya said confused, leaving Shoyo more lost than before.
"Because I didn't tell you..." was all he could choke out as his cheeks drowned in tears, his face filled with insecurity. "Well, I mean, sure I'm sad you didn't tell us but, you had a good reason for it didn't you? And regardless of if you're blind or not you're still you Hinata" Suga said, his voice filled with care as he reassured the worried sunshine that everything is okay.
Shoyo nodded, a smile spreading on his face as he thanked them, happy they weren't mad at him. Noya repeated one of the earlier questions right after "but seriously, how do you play if you can't see??" He was amazed but also very confused as he looked at his kohai curiously.
Shoyo giggled, remembering the day he told Kei about his disability, 'Kei asked me the same thing..' "About that.." Shoyo eventually started, telling them about how it all worked, and that he was completely blind since birth, missing both of his eyes, not just one. "Thank you for accepting me!" he then added happily once he was done. The team went in for a group hug, all of them, including the usually mad looking Kageyama, smiling.
They could hear Shoyo giggle happily before a grin spread across his face. 'I might as well say it..' he thought before he broke away from the hug. "One more thing" he began, his grin widening as he looked in the direction he knew his team was standing. "I'll become the ace, just watch!" his face became determined, while his teammates became shocked.
"I know you can do it!" was all Noya said, Tanaka quickly chiming in "I'm rooting for you!" The rest of the team took longer to get out of their initial shock before they joined in, cheering for him and giving out encouragement, Shoyo smiling brightly the whole time.
'I told them.. And they accepted me.. I'm so glad..' he thought before he felt his eyelids closing, suddenly feeling very tired as all anxiety he had felt for the last few days finally left him. He whistled and slowly walked to Kei, hugging him before he fell asleep, a small smile still lingering on his face.
The team smiled at him, Kei picking him up gently as the others said they would relay whatever they talk about to them later so that they didn't have to stay and could leave for the day. "See ya" was all Kei said as he left the gym, a sleeping Shoyo in his arms as he walked back home. On the way he called Shoyo's mother and told her Shoyo would be staying over for the day, and the fact he had told the team about him being blind, promising to tell her all about it later.
