"It's looking great guys." I encouraged. Taking a step back from the soon to be finished stage. Thank god Lily's parents had enough money to buy the supplies so soon. "Now all we need are the lights and curtains installed and we should be good." I walked over to the back of the building to grab the boxes with the required stuff.
"Let me grab that." I was gently moved to the side as i saw Pico grab said box, giving me a small glance. I nodded and backed off more, giving him space. After hefting the box in a comfortable grip and faced me fully. "Are you doing better than this morning?" He asked.
I couldn't help but smile a bit. "Yeah, it's just a dream anyways." He smiled slightly. "Thank you, again." That's when his smile faded. He looked away, but motioned me to follow. Taking up the offer, we walk back together.
Once we got there Pico set the box down next to the stage. "I can install these tomorrow if you'd like. I'm calling it a day." Lily nodded in agreement and turned to her parents.
"Yeah, i have to agree. We'll head over to our place. Mom, dad, you guys okay with that?" Her father nodded and we we're off. Pico decided to sit in front with Keith this time, giving me and Lily some time to talk. "Are you two okay?" She asked, once Keith turned up the radio.
"In all honesty, we did get off at a bad note," I looked towards the front at him. "But, i think he's warming up to me." I smiled. Looking back to Lily to see her smirking at me. "What?" I asked.
"Oh, nothing, nothing." She giggled. I was about to ask more until we pulled up back at the house. "Oh good, we're here." She announced and left the car. once Keith got out, they linked arms and walked inside. 'The fuck was that about?' I thought. Deciding to ignore it, i got out and walked inside behind everyone else.
"Night guys." I yawned and went towards my room, shutting the door behind me. "Finally-" I stretched out, letting out a sigh. "Some personal time." Looking around i shrugged as i put back on the clothes Pico let me borrow, hopping in bed.
I laid there for what seemed like hours, until i heard a knock on my door. I stayed still for a second, finally pulling myself off the bed. I opened the door to see none other than Pico himself. "Can i come in?" He asked in a whisper. I nodded and moved to let him in.
"Pico, it's like, two thirty." I groaned. But he just ignored, going straight to my bed.
After sitting down he stared at the floor. I hurried over, sitting next to him. "Hey," He turned to face me, looking kind of nervous. "Can i ask you something?" I leaned forward, nodding. "Do you want to go out... w-with me?" I froze.
'WHAT!' I mentally screamed. I tried to speak, but my throat dried the moment i opened my mouth. "Umm..." i managed to squeaked.
"No no no, not like that." He rushed. Going to rub the back of his neck. "Not like that. I meant like... Just get out. Me and you." His face flushed red. "A-as friends of course." He covered up.
I laughed quietly. "Sure, friends." At least we were getting somewhere. I got up, dragging him with me. "Well, we're are we going?" I smiled.
He stared at me for a second, a smile forming. But just barely. "Want to head to the McDonalds we went to?" I nodded and walked out of the room, he trailed me close behind. We both put on some jackets and walked out.
We decided to walk, since we didn't want to wake up the others from the car. The air was so cold i could see my breath. "Hey, Pico?" I looked at him. He didn't turn but hummed for me to continue. "About... that day." I started, gaining his attention. "You we're right, i was hiding... From my father." I smiled sadly, looking him in the eye as we slowed down. "He was a horrible man..." I whispered. "But, either way, he didn't deserve death. That crash, that whole day. Is the worst pain i have felt. Even more that the abuse he inflicted upon me." Pico's eyes widened slightly. "Am i happy i'm away from him, yeah... But, if i just didn't run... if i was patient to leave, he'd still be here." I looked back towards the sidewalk. Pico stopped fully, grabbing my hand and making me stop. Raising my chin to look at him, i sighed. I let the few tears stream down my face. "I-i didn't want to kill him."
I felt Pico freeze at those last words. "You didn't kill him..." He reassured me. "People don't lie when they say Karma's a bitch, it is." He smirked nervously. He cleared his throat. "I... I have done some messed up things as well." His face softened. "I was included in a school shooting. A long time ago." I listened intently. "I can't explain everything to you yet." He carefully moved his hand from under me, stepping back a step. "But I've been there."
I went to give him a hug, but stopping myself as i remembered the past ones.
"Hey, pretty lady!" I looked past Pico's shoulder to see a middle aged man wave towards me. Pico hesitantly turned around as well. "Ya wanna have some *hic* funnnnn?" I frowned, walking towards him. Until Pico grabbed my hand securely, bringing me towards him, wrapping the other arm around my waist.
"Ignore it." He whispered.
"B-but-" He gripped a tad harder.
"Just walk with me okay? Ignore that asshole." I nodded hesitantly, as we turned away from the man. Him cussing and slurring behind us, until he disappeared from our sight. Once McDonalds came into my view, i nervously glanced at him. 'Why hasn't he let go?' I mentally freaked out.
I was lost in thought until i got a sudden wave of cold air. Realizing Pico let go i looked up to him. Seeing him stare at me. I felt my face flush red. "Thanks." I awkwardly patted him on the shoulder, walking into the fast food place, covering my mouth in the process.
