Eren thought he might be going slightly crazy here. For the past week and a half, he'd been communicating with (Y/N) almost nonstop, he'd even FaceTimed her before she went to bed and he'd been flirty sure... BUT he toned it down quite a lot. He really did like her, he hadn't been saying it just for the sake of being able to bring her to lunch. He hadn't even attempted to kiss her yet! Maybe he wasn't being flirty enough, maybe she didn't know he considered this a date? Do you want to come with me? That sounded like a date to him. The others would be there, maybe she thought it was just another hangout. But she was letting him pick her up? He didn't do that when they hung out at lunch and stuff!
What was wrong with him? He'd been on plenty of dates and not dates. In fact he was kinda known for it. He wasn't supposed to be nervous, that wasn't part of his charm. He did his best to shake it off and just threw on pair of jeans and a nicer t-shirt, usually he was wearing sweats or athletic shorts so surely that was dressing up enough to some extent. Eren grabbed his keys and trudged on his shoes, but looked back before leaving, "Hey, I thought you already left?"
"Flat tire. I'll be so late if I try to get it fixed before so I'm just gonna order an Uber." Armin answered with a sheepish grin.
Eren paused... "Do you wanna just ride with me?"
"No! You're picking up (Y/N), I don't wanna ruin your date."
"It is a date! I knew it was!" Eren couldn't resist feeling relieved, but quickly realized Armin hadn't been privy to his thoughts, "Sorry, but no, it's fine. I'll text her I'm sure she'll understand. Plus, if anything starts to get past PG-13, I'll order you an Uber myself."
Eren laughed and began walking out. Armin chuckled too just to be friendly. He didn't really like the thought of them being intimate together... best not to dwell on it. Besides, letting the air out of his tire worked! He now had the chance to actually speak to her outside of the party and outside of everyone else. Even if Eren was still there it was progress regardless.
The car ride wasn't particularly long, but apparently (Y/N) lived off campus in an apartment her parents procured for her so her place wasn't just down the road either. Armin mindlessly returned the conversation with Eren on the drive. Trying to not sound too obvious when the topic drifted to (Y/N) or how crazy it was that Eren was a little nervous. He almost rolled his eyes when he confided in him that he hadn't been this into someone since junior year of high school.
Armin sat up straighter in the back seat whenever they arrived. He waited anxiously as Eren waited outside the lobby door for her to come down, almost like he was the one waiting outside himself. They'd both say it was quite the wait, though (Y/N) might disagree.
She looked at Eren's outfit and immediately felt over dressed. Eren eyed them simple, but enchanting black dress, "Damn. You look..."
"Insane, because I let someone talk me into dressing up for this and I shouldn't have! She said it was a date and I didn't want to look like- oh my god. This isn't a date and I look more like an idiot..."
"Well, I was going to say amazing." Eren chuckled, "And... it doesn't have to be a date, but I was hoping."
"Me too..."
"Then it's date." Eren agreed with a smile, "And you're not over dressed! I'm underdressed, it's kinda my thing. Armin is wearing a button up, so it was obviously me who didn't get the memo."
(Y/N) tried her best to let the man comfort her, although it was working now she really really hoped she wouldn't feel too embarrassed when they got there and she was the only one wearing heels. She guessed it was too late now though and let him lead her to his car, where he even opened and closed the door for her. "Hey Armin! You could've sat upfront I would've-"
"Nonsense! I'm only here because of a flat tire so... you look really great by the way." He hoped the compliment came out as sincere as he meant it. He wanted to tell her how absolutely gorgeous she was, how he already thought she was already the prettiest person he'd ever seen, but he definitely knew now beyond a shadow of a doubt that she was the most beautiful person to ever walk the this earth. He didn't though... that probably would've exposed him and his feelings.
At this point Eren was getting back into the driver's seat, "Doesn't she? I'm a little lost for words."
He shot her a charming smile before returning his gaze back to the road and pulling off. His focus was mostly on the road, definitely not wanting the night to end prematurely with an untimely car crash. However, feeling more confident after her answer he let his hand drift to the console, the side just barely brushing against her thigh. She noticed though, her lips twisting into the smallest of smiles. Armin noticed too...
"You both look nice too. Very handsome." She stated like it was a simple fact, and not her opinion in the slightest. "I'm still a little worried that I'm gonna look like a complete tool when we get there... I should've asked if it was casual."
"No one is going to think you're a tool. And if anyone says anything I'll beat them up." His laugh was contagious and earned a giggle from her.
"I brought a sweater with me, just in case. You're welcome to it if it'll make you more comfortable." Armin had been teased quite a few times for always wanting to be prepared, but now it might've just paid off.
"What if you get cold?"
"He doesn't use it, he just always bring it, and judges the rest of us for not being prepared." Eren teased lightly.
Armin was already passing the garment to her, hoping she would take it, "I don't judge you... BUT this is just proof it's good to have."
(Y/N) shrugged it on, immediately feeling a little less over dressed, but she still wished she wasn't wearing heels. "Thanks! I promise I'll return it."
