Happiest Year by Jaymes Young

I must be dreaming.

When I came to, I saw my mom and the most beautiful girl I have ever seen standing over me. In all honesty, I wouldn't have minded laying there for a few minutes longer but I could tell my mom was getting hysterical. My blurry vision didn't make getting up any easier. In the process of me trying to regain my balance, I feel someone grab my hand with an unfamiliar voice directed towards me. When my eyes finally refocused, I realized who it was.

It's her...

In front of me was the very girl I've been stressing about meeting. It was the very girl whom I had created different scenarios in my head with. The girl I thought about right before drifted off at night. All my emotions about her collided at once and caused me to lose my balance again but only for about half a second. She immediately noticed and took action. Through pure adrenaline she managed to hold me up. I looked over at her and instantly felt all the blood rush to my cheeks. She said nothing yet her eyes spoke a thousand words.

I could tell she was worried so I bowed slightly. "Thank you for helping me," I assured her. "Really, I'm okay."

She looked at my mother, desperate for answers. Then I heard my mom speak in Japanese.

Oh shit. Japan bruh I swear. The girl looked back at me and began to smile.

"Yokatta!" she rejoiced.

Adorable.

I couldn't help but giggle. She noticed and smiled back at me.

Realizing the situation that I was in, I took this opportunity to ask my mom if she could ask her if she goes to school around here. As I await her answer, there are so many different emotions swirling in my head. Where did she come from? Why is she riding on this side of the road? Is she okay? Why was she only checking up on me? I'm kind of glad it happened. But is this worth it?

My mom pipes up and tells me her school, "Apparently, she goes to Katagiri Senior High School." Her face lights up immediately.

Oh no.

Her attention is then focused on the girl. I can already tell where this is going.

"Okay Mom! Thanks! That's all I needed. We'll be going now!" Without thinking, I grabbed the stranger's hand and began to walk away.

I could tell by her facial expression that she was about to go on a tangent. I'm glad I stopped her before--

"E to..."

I turn around to meet eyes with the person I just kidnapped from the side of the road. We are now at a local park but at least I now know the park isn't far.

"I am so sorry. I didn't even realize what I was doing. I do this a lot, oh my god I'm so sor--." Before I could finish my sentence, I realized that the girl who managed to make me forget all reason was now hugging me, rather tightly might I add. Her arms getting tighter and tighter before she finally meets my face with hers.

While pulling out her phone, I can't help but feel frazzled.

What just happened. Why did she do that? Am I dreaming? Again?

Pulling me back into reality, I realized what she was trying to show me. Her phone is now eye level with me as I read what she was trying to tell me. It seems she's used Google Translate to try to communicate with me.

"Hello!" it reads. "My name is Hori Kyouko! What's yours?!"
