Travelling via duck airways felt... Unpleasant. It was chilly. And weird. Like every molecule in Will's body was being separated the merged in the wrong way. The best way to describe it? It felt like he was being kneaded like bread dough. When the nauseating experience was over, the three elves and four demigods fell into what could only be described as the world of blinding light.
"Wow", Dex said. "And I thought the lost cities were shiny."
"What is this place?" Piper asked Magnus.
"Welcome", Magnus said. "To Alfheim, world of the elves. Uh, Norse elves."
"Okay, who's idea was it to make all elves cities sun shine-y?" Marella complained.
"Give you're eyes a minute to adjust", Will suggested. He felt a little more comfortable in the light than the others, probably because his father was a sun god.
"You gotta look out for cops", Magnus said. "Like I said, most elves here are very nosy."
"Who's there?" A voice called.
"Speak of the devils", Magnus muttered. He turned around and shouted. "Heya Wildflower and Sunspot."
Two men, who looked like police officers stopped in their tracks and looked at Magnus Chase like he was a living miracle. When they seemed to realize who he was, they bowed so low it looked their their heads were about to fall off.
"Welcome to Alfheim, Master Magnus", one said.
Both police officers looked like typical aliens- thin and tall with pointed faces.
"You again?" Magnus sounded irritated. "Well at least you're not calling me thick anymore."
Dex frowned. "Thick?"
"Are these elves?" Fitz asked.
The two cops seemed to notice the others for the first time.
"Who are you?"one asked skeptically.
"Are these friends of yours, Master Magnus?" The others asked.
"Yes, and they are no threat so I expect you to respect them", Magnus told them, trying to look strict but in vain. "And I order you to give us a ride in your car to Mr Hearthstone's house."
The cops bowed even deeper. "Of course, sir."
They led the seven questers to a black police car and motioned for them to get in. Luckily it was a big one and could fit all of them in.
"What's up with them?" Marella said quietly. "Master Magnus? Are you their boss?"
"Nah", Magnus said. "It's just that Alfheim belongs to my dad, Frey. Last time I was here with Hearthstone, they didn't know that he was my father. They flipped when they found out they were mistreating a son of Frey."
"Can't believe they are elves", Fitz marveled.
"Why not?" Piper asked.
"Well, they look so different. Like aliens offer something", Dex said.
Fitz snorted. "I remember when Sophie thought she was an alien when I first told her she wasn't human."
"She did?"
"Are you ready Master Magnus?" Wildflower asked.
"Start driving, peasants", Magnus ordered.
"You sound really commanding", Will said.
"Serves them right after treating me like a stay dog the last time."
The car strated and moved forward on the straight road. Just as it did, a hand clamped hard on Will's shoulder. When he looked at his right, he saw that the hand belonged to Fitz.
"Sorry", Fitz said. "Not used to vehicles. Mind if I hold your shoulder for support? I feel like I'm going to fall."
Will half-shrugged. "Sure."
For once, Will was glad Nico wasn't here. He tended to get overly protective when another boy or girl regarded him in any way. If he were here he would've hit- no, cut Fitz's hand off. Still, Will liked that Nico was so protective over him.
Will looked outside as they drove. Alfheim's houses were all huge and fancy-looking. Fitz's grasp got a little painful, but Will ignored it.
When they car pulled over, Sunspot announced, "We have reached Master Hearthstone's residence, Master Magnus."
When Will, Piper, Jason, Marella, Dex, Fitz and Magnus had got out of the car, Magnus told Wildflower and Sunspot, "I am well pleased with your service. My father will hear about this." (wink, wink).
The two cops dipped into another overkill bow and derived away.
Will turned around to find a luxurious mansion that defined opulence.
"This is Hearth's house?" Jason marveled.
"No offence", Marella said. "But it's kinda small."
Will, Magnus, Jason and Piper looked at her like she grew give heads. Magnus cracked a smile. "Very funny".
Marella frowned. "I'm not kidding. Houses in the Lost Cities are bigger."
Magnus shook his head. "Let's get in."
He walked up to the magnificent door and rang a bell that echoed through the mansion. A childlike girl in a floral dress stood behind the doors when they opened. She had blond hair and- a tail?
"Master Magnus!" She said and dipped into a curtsey.
"Just call me Magnus, Inge", Magnus told her with a smile. "Is Hearth at home?"
"Master Hearthstone and Master Blitzen are in the living room. I'll direct you to them."
Inge led them through the front door to a lavish living room. As they walked, Fitz whispered to Will, "Thanks for your support. It really helped."
Will nodded. "You'll get used to vehicles."
"Maybe but I hope I won't have to ride in one ever again."
"Is she an elf too?" Dex asked Magnus quietly.
"A kind of elf", Magnus agreed. "Inge is a hulder. They used to be considered-" Magnus froze midsentence.
When Will looked ahead he saw why. Sitting on a couch was a dark-skinned man with some cards in his hand. But it was the right of the person on the opposite couch that was the problem. He had platinum blonde hair, he looked like an elf. And his shirt was covered in dark red blood.
