37. Don't make me go crazy

Kaitlyn

"I don't like it. I'm against the idea."

"It's his sister, Kait. I have to do something. Abdul has been with me since I was a child. I owe it to him."

"Just send him the money to trade for his sister. This is dangerous business. You might get hurt."

"Nothing will happen to me. I'll go and exchange the money for his sister. Everything will be fine."

"How do you know that? How do you know she's even still alive? They could have told him anything. Criminals aren't known for their honesty."

"I can't send all that money. I have to deliver it in person."

"Tell Abdul to come here for it then. He can go back and bargain for her exchange himself. Why does it have to be you?"

"Babe, you're being unreasonable."

"I'm being your wife. I'm being what I'm supposed to be, worried about my husband who is planning on going to Turkey to exchange money for some woman's life that he doesn't even know." Phoenix pulled me into his arms.

"Please be a little understanding. I've lived in those parts. I know how these things go. All they're asking for is money. I have more than enough to pay the ransom they're asking for."

"I don't like it."

"I'm not going to leave with you upset, because then I'll be sad."

"I'm not upset. I'm worried."

"And I have told you there is nothing to worry about. Come here." He pulled me down on top of him in bed. "I don't want to hear anymore about you worrying. Trust me. Okay?" I sighed.

"Okay. I'll trust you to come back to me safe and unharmed." We pushed the topic from our thoughts and turned our attention to other things. But the apprehension I was feeling didn't go away. It was there when I went to bed. It was there while I watched him sleep, and it was there in the morning when we kissed goodbye and he left.

Three days...

The last time I spoke to Phoenix was three days ago. I was going out of my mind.

"I'm sure he's fine," Taylor said. He didn't sound convinced.

"I haven't heard from him in three fucking days! Don't tell me he's fine. Something is wrong." I could feel it in my bones. Something was definitely wrong. "I can't sit here and do nothing. I have to go."

"Go where? Whoa. Calm down and think rationally for a second. You can't just up and go to Turkey. There's unrest over there now. It's dangerous."

"Do I look like I give a fuck about unrest or danger? I haven't heard from my husband in three days. Three days! Do you expect me to sit and do nothing? I can't do that." I knew it was terrible idea. I just knew it. I didn't want him to go, but he just has to be the hero for everyone. "I'm going. None of you will talk me out of this or stop me. And if you dare tell anyone I'll make sure you wish you weren't born. Alezan will be in charge in my absence. You can help him."

"I still don't think you should go there. At least get help."

"Nothing you say will change my mind, Taylor. I'm going." I excused myself and went to my office. I couldn't just go off on my own. I don't even know what the situation is like or what I'll walk into. Antonio would know what to do. He has experience in these types of things. I called him up.

"When was the last time you heard from him?"

"Three days ago when he called saying he landed safely."
