"Still no change?"
"No."
"I don't get it. It was just a kiss." I curled into Kei's side. "It wasn't just a kiss for him. He saw it as a betrayal."
"That guy is way too dense. Well at least he didn't cancel the engagement."
"Thank god for that." I responded sarcastically. "Come on Kait. This can be a good thing."
"Forgive me if I don't see how this is a good thing."
"Every couple needs time apart."
"We already spend too much time apart."
"A few days out of the month for business do not count."
"Why?"
"Because you spent four years together, always by each other's side. I really think this is a good thing."
"You already said that."
"I'm reiterating."
"Well you don't need to."

"So is your mind made up now?"
"What do you mean?"
"Did you decide between the two?"
"There wasn't anything to decide about. It has always been Phoenix for me. It's always going to be him, Kei."
"Does De Luca know that?"
"He doesn't want to believe it."

"Then make it clear to him."
"I've tried many times. He's stuck in his own delusional world. He thinks I'll come to him when the time is right."
"Send him the message the only way he'll accept it."
"What way is that?"
"Marry Phoenix."
"Do you know how long a wedding takes to plan? Besides, we've already decided that our engagement will be for two years."
"Kait, you've never wanted a big wedding. I don't understand why you're going through the trouble to have one."
"My mum would never forgive me if I went out and got married without the wedding of her dreams."
"She'll forgive you."

"Even if I could marry Phoenix tomorrow he's still avoiding me. It's too soon for me to go to him with this idea."
"You don't know men very well. For us it's about showing the world our possession."
"That sounds so sexist."
"It's true though. What better way is there to ease his doubts than to marry the guy?"
"He needs time to sort through his feelings. Kei, I know Phoenix better than you do. I can't be the one to go to him. He has to be the one to come to me. It's all about control with him. I went out and did something he asked me not to. He lost control of me. Now he needs to get that back. I have to wait for him."
"Okay. You know him better than I do."
"I do."

"So, do you plan to stay here until he comes to his senses?"
"Yes. Your dad would never kick me out."
"That's what you think. He came close to doing it when he found out we slept together. Speaking of which, does Phoenix know I was your first?" I rolled my eyes. "You say it like it's some great accomplishment."
"It is. You know, you can always ditch those two and come to me. We're practically family already anyway." I pushed his arm. "That's not going to happen."
"Is it because I'm not rich, or is it because I'm half Japanese? I bet it's the Japanese thing." I laughed. "You're so silly."
"I made you laugh though."
"You did."

"Let's go out."
"Kei..."
"Kait..."
"I want to wallow in my guilt. Can't a girl do that?"
"Not with me as a best friend. We're going out. Don't make me say it again."
"Fine, let's go out. I'm sure it will be fun watching you try to pick up girls."
"That's the spirit," he replied just as sarcastically as me. Clubbing was the furthest thing from my mind right now but I would go because I know he only wants to cheer me up.

"How is it possible for you to choose the one club with all of them present at the same time?" I wanted to hit Kei over the head. "How was I supposed to know everyone and their mothers would be out clubbing tonight?"
"I'm leaving."
"If you leave now you'll only let them know you're bothered. So what if your fiancée is here with your 'friend'? I'm using the term very loosely right now. What is Genevieve doing in London anyway?"
"Didn't I tell you? She's working at the company." I gulped down some beer. "She's what's?"
"I'll explain that another time." Genevieve had always been after Phoenix. I knew it then and it is still evident now. I'm sure he knows it too. Why would he do this to me?
