21. The feels

Niko
For the entire weekend it was nonstop news about the Paxton Heiress and her boyfriend the model. Everywhere they went and everything they did was brought to my knowledge. Then there were the instagram pictures; some very erotic pictures that had no business being on social media. I gritted my teeth. What the hell was wrong with me? Why did this annoy me so much?

I paced around my new office trying to come up with a solution to this problem. Why was I so affected by this? I stopped pacing long enough to put the pieces together.

I like her. From the first time I exchanged words with her at the bar in the club I had an interest in her. Fuck. Why didn't I realize it before? It made sense. After meeting her, nothing seemed to satisfy me anymore. Victoria suddenly seemed too boring, too annoying, and too docile. The sex didn't do it for me again. She didn't do it for me anymore. It wasn't because she did anything wrong. It was because of me. She knew it even before I did. Shit!

I suddenly wanted to know everything there is to know about Kaitlyn-Rose Paxton. I don't normally dig into people's lives, because everyone deserved their privacy no matter who they are. But I couldn't resist. I needed to know everything. There was only one person I could call to get the information I needed. It would cost a pretty penny, but it would be worth it.

"Niko, what can I do for you today?" Caleb sounded amused. "Do you find me amusing, Caleb?"
"Not at all. Who is it?"
"Kaitlyn-Rose Paxton." He sighed. "Will there be a problem?"
"It's more a conflict of interest, but nothing I can't work around. What is to with you two?" Celeb and I had been friends since university. So this was more than a business relationship. "What do you mean?"
"I shouldn't be telling you this, but since our friendship comes first I will. Kaitlyn requested information on you a few days ago." Kaitlyn? They were on first name basis? I didn't like the idea.

"Did she?" That was interesting. "What did she request and what did you give her?"
"I can't tell you that. She's a client."
"And I'm your friend."
"I just thought you should know she looked into you. That's all. Is there something going on between you two?"
"That's none of your business."
"I was just checking, mate. That boyfriend of hers is very possessive and protective. I'd hate to see this turn into a scandal." I didn't want to hear that. "Just get me everything you can about her for the past four years."
"That will take a while."
"You have until the end of the week." I knew he would have it ready for me before then.

"One more thing before I go."
"What?" Kaitlyn looked into Vicky, too. She was very interested in her financial situation."
"Shit."
"Any idea as to why?"
"They had an altercation."
"Altercation?"
"Victoria slapped her." Caleb chuckled. "That explains it then."
"I have to go." Kaitlyn would not let this thing with Victoria go. She'd try her best to ruin her. She'd been too busy with the boyfriend these past few days to think about Victoria. Now that he was gone, she had the time.

Before I could call Victoria to find out what happened, she called me crying. She mumbled something incoherently for a few minutes before finally managing to get the words out. "She took my house."
"I'm assuming by 'she' you mean Kait?"
"I knew she was evil, but I don't know she was this evil. I worked so hard to buy that house and in a few minutes she took it away from me." Her crying annoyed me. I hate crying women. "Okay, calm down and tell me exactly what happened."

"I got a call to go down to the station regarding the incident. She was there. She wanted me to pay her three million for slapping her." I expected as much. "I refused of course, because even if I did have that kind of money I was still paying of my car loan and med school expenses." I had offered to clear her loans when we were together but she refused. "She offered me another solution. She'd forget the three million if I handed over the deed to my house and handed over my car as well. I refused that too, until she said the only other option was three months in jail."
"So you handed them over." This was not about the money. She wanted her to suffer. "I had no choice," she wailed in my ear.
