Niko
I should have just let her order something else. What the hell was I thinking swapping our meals knowing damn well I'm allergic to beef? I had maybe four or six hours before symptoms would start to show up. I had no idea what those symptoms would be.

Once again silence engulfed us as I drove her home. It wasn't awkward or uncomfortable. I figured that was the kind of woman she was. As a teenager she seemed the opposite. I wonder what changed. "Are you always this quiet?"
"I'm quiet with people I don't know."
"I see." I guess that made sense.
As soon as I dropped her of safely I called Victoria. "Niko?"

"Is it possible for me to get a shot for an allergy?"
"Of course. What type of allergy is it and what symptoms are you experiencing?"
"I'm not experiencing any symptoms yet. I had steak."
"Niko, you didn't."
"Just tell me if I can get the shot or not."
"I'd have to know the specific symptoms before administering a shot. It might get worst if I don't know them."
"So that's a no then." That means I'll have to wait until I start experiencing symptoms before anything could be done. Fuck! What the hell was I thinking?

I didn't bother going home. I went to my apartment in the city instead. Once I started experiencing symptoms I'd need to be as close to a hospital as possible. The minute I got back to the apartment I went to bed. I had been working extra hours the past few days and was really tired.

I woke up around two in the morning with an upset stomach. I struggled to the bathroom barely making it on time to bring up the contents of my stomach. I threw up twice. While I was cleaning myself up I noticed the hives on my arm. I called Victoria immediately. I don't know what other reactions I would have, but I needed to get this treated now. I threw up a few more times while waiting on Victoria to arrive.

While we were in the hospital, Victoria just would not shut up about it. I was grateful for her help, but her nagging was getting annoying. "What in the world possessed you to eat beef?"
"Give it a rest, Victoria."
"I won't give it a rest. You could have died. You're being too nonchalant about this whole thing." I wasn't in the mood for Victoria right now. I had to stay in the hospital until my hives cleared. That would be a few hours. I didn't need her in my ear. We weren't together. She wasn't entitled anymore to criticize my choices. She was a doctor and she was helping. She needed to stick to her job. "Did you add therapist to your job description too? It's not your business what I do anymore Victoria. I appreciate your help, but that's where things end." Luckily, she decided to shut her trap. If she had even said another word about this my behaviour wouldn't have been nice.

"Good evening, Ms. Paxton. I thought you'd like to know Ms. Maddox is here." Henrietta looked troubled by the news and looked like she wanted to be somewhere else. "Safiare is here?" She nodded. What the hell was Safiare doing here? I walked in to see her feet on my very expensive coffee table with the file on Niko in her hands. I grabbed it from her. "Do you always let yourself into people's apartment?"
"People? Last time I checked my brother lived here too. Thus, I'm entitled to be here as much as you."
"Wrong. You should be in New York. What are you doing in London?"
"I left home."
"You left home? What the hell does that mean?"
"It means I'm done with your brother." Like I haven't heard that before. "How old are you though? You left home? Safiare, you're a grown ass woman. You're twenty-five years old. I think you missed the 'I ran away from home phase' about a decade ago. Now I don't know exactly what's going on with you and Jax, but if you love him the way you think you do, you should have at least told him you're done and that you're leaving. It's called being polite."
"I needed to get away."
"So you chose here?"
"You're really confident in yourself. I guess any woman would be if they had my brother on their arm." I rolled my eyes, but I didn't disagree. Phoenix was everything good that was bad about me.
