30. Leaning towards acceptance

Kaitlyn
"I need to talk to you." Said Satan. I reluctantly pulled away from Phoenix's embrace. Why did she choose now to come and disturb my peace of mind? "What do you want, Victoria?"
"I want my house back."
"And you choose now to come and ask for it? Haven't you ever heard that there is a time and a place for everything?"
"Well the time is now and this is the place. Give me back my house."
"Go cry to someone who cares, Victoria. I sure as bloody hell don't give a flying fuck about you or your house."

Niko exited the club just then. I did not want a confrontation between him and Phoenix. So I started to pull him away in the opposite direction. "Hey! Don't you see me talking to you?"

"What's this about a house?"
"Don't worry about it." A hard tug on my hair had me stumbling backwards and away from Phoenix. "I said I'm not finished talking to you." I must have the worst luck. First it was Genevieve and now it's this bitch. "Let go." She tugged harder. "Give me back my house." I did warn her. I kicked my leg back and it connected with a body part. Her hold loosened. Phoenix crossed his arms and raised his eyebrows questioningly. I shook my head letting him know he should stay out of it. I'm sure he would do just that unless I was in real danger, which I wasn't at the moment.

I whirled on her. "Just what do you think you're doing?" Her battle cry was what alerted me to her attack. She charged and I was too speechless to react. I fell to the ground hard. "Victoria!" That was Niko's voice. I could barely make out Phoenix from my position. Victoria's fingers gripped my neck. "Since you're not going to give me my house I might as well kill you!" I smelt alcohol on her breath. Was she drunk? "I'm going to choke the life out of you and enjoy doing it." She was definitely drunk. She seemed to have a problem with squeezing. If I wasn't on the ground on a sidewalk at three in the morning with a crazy woman trying to choke me to death, I would have laughed.

I wrapped my legs around her and squeezed. Her flimsy grip loosened and I was able to remove her fingers from around my neck. I brought my palm up hard and it connected with her chin. Her teeth clattered together. When she was unfocused I rolled us so that I now had the upper-hand.

"Victoria!" I had forgotten about Niko. Phoenix was there to the rescue however. "Is this how you control your woman?" What was I, a dog? Why would Phoenix need to control me?

"Stop struggling or I will be forced to hurt you. I'd rather not." Victoria was moving around like a wild cat. I held both her wrists and head-butted her. She cried out in pain. I would have, too, but I had to keep my composure.

"I could say the same about you. Leave the women to their business. Don't interfere."
"Move out of my way."
"I can't allow you to do that." Because I was paying too much attention to Niko and Phoenix, I lost my grip on Victoria. She gave me an uppercut and I swear I saw stars. She pushed me off and I shook my head trying to get rid of the dizziness.

"Move out of my way." Niko pushed Phoenix out of the way but Phoenix was quick to recover. He grabbed Niko by the throat. Victoria came at me again. I was on my feet now and better prepared. There was grabbing and pulling, hair yanking and kicking. She even got a punch in. She was drawing my focus away from Niko and Phoenix. I must really be losing my touch if a drunken bitch was holding her own against me. I grabbed a handful of her hair and pulled. A chunk came way in my palm. She screamed and kicked at me. I held her off. I was relieved when Kei showed up, but Victoria managed to bring us tumbling to the ground once again. The impact knocked the wind out of us, but still we struggled to our feet.

Phoenix and Niko we're going at it. That wasn't good. "Hold her," I said to Kei. I needed to separate those two. Phoenix would kill Niko. "Kait! Wait! Kait, wait! You can't get involved in that. You might get hurt." I ignored Kei. It might be dangerous just to throw myself between the two men, but I knew for certain neither one would let me get hurt. "Just hold the bitch, Kei."
