17. Paxton Heiress

Two months later...

Kaitlyn-Rose
"Has there been any problems with the building's occupants?"
"Well, you see, the thing is."
"Spit it out, Madeline. I don't have all day." My mother had delivered on her promise of finding the best location for me and Phoenix. She did not disappoint. The building was now owned by me and evacuation notices had been sent out a month ago. That gave them ample time to move out. My mum also delivered on my assistant and publicist. Madeline had been doing a great job so far. At first I was a little hesitant because we were the same age and I was worried she wouldn't be able to manage the task, but she's been doing well so far.

I stopped looking over the sketches I had in my hand and looked at her expectantly. "One of the floors hasn't been emptied yet," she rushed out. "What? We are due to start renovations in a few days. What the hell do you mean not empty? Did they receive the notice?"
"Yes, Ms. Paxton."
"Was it stated clearly that the building was under new management and they had to leave?"
"Yes, Ms. Paxton."
"So what's the problem then? I'm waiting on a response Ms. Patel."

"The problem is you are trying to evict one of London's best business lawyers for the past three years." Taylor my publicist walked in looking immaculate as always. I thought he should have been a celebrity stylist instead of a publicist, but this is the path he chose. "Good morning, Taylor. It's so nice you could join us," I drawled. "What do you know?"
"What makes you think I know anything?"
"Because you know everything. Who is the person that's giving us so much trouble?" Madeline handed the tablet to me. My eyes opened wide at the profile that was up. If this isn't fate then I don't know what is. I smirked. "Niko De Luca."
"You know him?" I didn't answer Taylor's question. "Do you want me to take care of it?"
"Not at all. I'll deal with this one personally."
"What?" Both my assistant and publicist looked at me like I'd gone crazy. I probably had. My heart was pounding in my chest just looking at his picture. It has been four years since I last saw him. Our last meeting didn't turn out so well. How ironic is it that I now own the building he works in? "You never handle these minor details."
"Believe me, there's nothing minor at all about this. This is something I have to handle personally." Taylor looked at me trying to assess the situation. I had my business poker face on. There was no way he could tell that my heart skipped a beat when I saw his picture. "Get the car ready. I'm going to pay a visit to Mr. De Luca." We had unfinished business to settle.

"You're going out like that?"
"Is there something wrong with going out like this?"
"You don't see anything wrong with going to take care of business in ripped jeans and a cropped top?"
"Nothing at all. I'm Kaitlyn-Rose Paxton. I can go wherever I want, dressed however I want. Is the car ready Madeline?"
"Yes Ms. Paxton."
"Let's go then."

As soon as I exited my apartment complex the cameras started going off. I put on my sunglasses to block my eyes. You'd think I was doing some great deed the way they stalked me and camped out in front of my complex every day. Some days when I was feeling generous I'd pose for them. Today wasn't one of those days. Today I had other things on my mind.

"Give me some background information." Madeline talked to me on our journey up to his office. He occupied the largest floor and had been working in the building since he started six years ago. His reputation had grown a lot those six years. Moving from this location would possibly cause him to lose business because it was in the centre of the city. Well too bad for him. I'm not even going to pretend that I wasn't extremely happy for this great opportunity that my mum has presented me with. I now had the chance to get even with Niko De Luca and get back at him for all those mean things he said to me four years ago. Plus, we had unfinished business.

Madeline continued to give me detailed information about him with Taylor chipping in. "What about his personal life?"
"Pardon me?"
"His personal life. Is he married? Does he have children? Is he single or dating anyone?" Madeline looked at me like I had lost my mind. I couldn't blame her. I never asked about those things. "Never mind. We're here."
"Shouldn't we have brought security?" I raised my eyebrow at her. "The last time I checked that was your responsibility, Madeline."
"I'm sorry, Ms. Paxton. I thought they wouldn't be needed."
"Just because you think so doesn't mean they agree with you. You know my father doesn't let me go anywhere without them."
"Not to mention your boyfriend would get all Tarzan on us if anything were to happen to you when he isn't here."
"Shut up Taylor!" Taylor and I didn't have a typical publicist and client relationship. We were more like friends. We hit it off the minute we met. Our atmosphere was more comfortable. Well that's what one would expect with the person who manages every aspect of your personal life.
