9. Thoughts of a new beginning
Victoria
"Let go of me! Are you going to beat me because I dared say something you didn't like?" He let go of my arm like I had burned him. To be fair, that was a low blow. "It happened once."
"I know. I'm sorry."
"What's going on with you? You've been giving me attitude, talking about things that will never happen and behaving like a hysterical train wreck of something stupid. Are all women like this? Fuck." He ran his fingers through his hair. A hysterical train wreck. Is that what he just said? "You are obviously in your own world. I'll come back when you've regained your sense because you're not acting like the man I know."
I turned to leave and he grabbed me. "I'm not finished talking to you."
"Well I am. You're a control freak and you can't control everything. You can't control what I say, how I act, or what I do. If I'm in a relationship I'm entitled to ask certain questions."
"And I'm within my rights to not answer."
"You're such an arsehole! You're a cunt Niko De Luca."
"Stop shouting at me."
"I'll shout all I want. You're a bastard and the biggest arse I've ever met."
"I said stop shouting at me. You know I have issues with people shouting at me."
"I can shout all I want. Do you want to know why? It's because I'm my own person. I control me. But the main reason is because I am pissed. Therefore I am shouting. I have reasons to be shouting because I'm pregnant, you cocksucking arsehole!" I was blowing like I had just run a marathon. He'd pushed me over the edge, and now he was staring at me like I'd lost my mind.
When he finally spoke, his voice was low but firm. "Get rid of it." I guess he must have thought the conversation was over because he opened the door and walked out. "I'm not finished talking to you." I walked after him. I was beyond furious right now. A vase crashed to the floor when I brushed by it. "Don't you dare brush me off like some pesky little annoying fly. This is something we must discuss. I'm pregnant." A glass crashed to the floor in the kitchen. Bullocks. I forgot we had company. Talking about our private matter in front of people was sure to get a rise out of him.
He stopped walking and turned to look at me. "I've already told you what you're going to do. You're pregnant. Get rid of it. Problem solved. We discussed this before we got involved. I told you to always take precaution and I'll do the same because I don't want children. You agreed. It was also agreed that if a mistake was to occur you would take care of it. So I'm confused as to why we're even discussing this. If you want us to continue, you'll abort that baby and pretend this never happened. If you want us to be over for good, go have that baby and take care of it on your own for as long as you live. I don't want to know about it, nor do I care about it. You want marriage and babies. I told you from the first day we met that I can't give you that. You gave yourself to me anyway. Why the change of heart now? What point are you trying to prove?" A tear slipped down my cheek. "Stop crying. You look ugly when you cry." He walked away from me without looking back.
"That piece of shit! Are you going to let him talk to you like that?" Another sob escaped. I appreciated that this young girl felt the need to defend my honour, but there was nothing neither she nor I could do. I had made a deal with Niko when we started this thing. He was right. Not because I wanted things to be different means that they would be.
"Forget about it. It's none of your business." Now she too was looking at me like I had lost my mind.
"She's right. It's none of your business. Your parents just pulled up." He looked at me with anger in his eyes. To her he looked like a different man. I could see that she was questioning herself about which is the real Niko. I didn't have to do that because I knew. This man and the one she had in her head were the same. Niko De Luca had a dark side. I've glimpsed it a few times. I always knew there was more to him than what he has shown me.
