20:35 (Thursday)
We all sat waiting for the firework show to start.
"Hey, do you guys want to get something to eat while we wait? There a food truck over there." Clay said pointing across the field to the parking lot where the food truck was located at.
"Yea sure!" We all said.
We told Clay what we wanted. I just wanted a lemonade since I wasn't too hungry.
"Okay, George can you come with me to help carry the stuff?" Clay said and George nodded.
They both walked off and Drista and I sat alone.
"So... do you have a crush on anybody?" Drista asked out of no where.
"W-what? What kind of a question is that! Of course not." I said startled
"It's called 'girl talk'. Anything we say here is confidential so you can just tell me. Cmon! Who is it? Do you like George?" She asked impatiently
"Um...no...I don't have a crush on George..." I said nervously
"What about Clay?" She asked
I fell silent for a second and felt my face warm up a bit.
"SO IT IS CLAY!" Drista yelled as she noticed that I wasn't speaking
"N-no...i don-" I started to say
"Yes you do! Don't lie!" She said
"Y'know what? I'm positive he likes you too. He always talks about you. He talks about how funny you are and talks about how hardworking you are too. He's never talked that way before about anyone. He totally likes you." She continued
"Ugh it's weird though... why do you like him? Hes so dumb." She said
I sat there, taken aback by the comment.
"I- I don't like him...I don't think I'm ready for a relationship. I'm okay the way I am now." I said
"Hmm, yea okay..." she said skeptical of my answer
"I'm gonna go to the bathroom. I'll be back." Drista said and headed to one of the buildings on the field that was marked as a restroom.
I sat there waiting for Clay, George and Drista to come back when I saw someone heading towards me.
"Hey!" The man said to me.
I looked up and saw a brunette man with a black hoodie on and some jeans speaking to me.
"Hello.?" I said standing up and walking over to him.
"Im Dax, I just wanted to say that you look really cute and I was wondering if I could have your number? And we could maybe go out sometime.." he said and waited for my response
His eyes looks sunken and tired, his movement was wobbly too.
This guy looks drunk...
"sorry, but Im not really looking for a relationship right now.." I said in the kindest voice I could muster
"That's fine, we could still be friends though." He said
"No, that's fine. I really don't have time for friendships. I work a lot so I don't have a lot of free time." I said hoping that he would get the hint.
"Aw come on, let's at least try to become friends. Someone as pretty as you deserves some love." He said in an annoying voice
Okay now I definitely don't want your number...
"No thanks, I'm fine." I said again and started to go back to my spot on the field.
"Come on! Don't walk away from me!" He said and grabbed my wrist. He was holding onto it really tightly and I could already tell it was going to leave a bruise.
"Someone's gotta teach you how to respect a man." He said menacingly
I turned around and gave him a cold glare.
I twisted my wrist so that I could free myself. It was a self defense move that my dad taught me when I was younger. He made me practice with him so that I could defend myself.
I got my wrist free and used the palm of my hand to hit him on the nose.
"There are 2 weak points on a man. His crotch and his nose."
That's what my dad always said.
"YOU BITC-" he yelled and was interrupted by me kicking his crotch.
He fell to the floor in pain.
"Don't swear. There are kids here." I said to him while he was crying in pain.
Thankfully, there was a police officer nearby that was alerted by one of the families near us and they took him away.
I sat back down and felt a pain on my wrist. The adrenaline in my body was wearing off and I could feel the pain starting grow.
"Hey! We're back!" Clay said and Drista soon came back from the restroom too.
"Sorry i took so long, there was a line for the bathroom." She explained
"Yeah there was a long line for the food truck too." George explained
We sat down and got our stuff. Clay handed my my lemonade. When I went to grab it he stopped me.
"What happened to your wrist?" He asked and carefully grabbed my wrist
"Oh. I don't know. I think I had a tight bracelet or hair tie on or something. But it's alright, it doesn't hurt." I said not wanting to worry them.
"Geez, Be careful." He whispered and gave my my lemonade.
I laughed and drank my nice cold cup of lemonade.
Soon enough we heard loud explosions. George and Drista were sitting in front of us. We all looked up at to see the sky being filled up with bright colors and smoke residue from the previous firework. We all admired the fireworks and the wonderful show it put on.
Seeing these fireworks reminded me of the fireworks I saw at the Fair that day with Clay.
I soon felt Clays arm wrap around my shoulder and he pulled me in.
My body moved on its own and was now right next to Clay. I let my head rest on his chest. I could feel his heartbeat rising and it made me smile.
It felt nice to be in his embrace.
