As much as I resented my dad for the way he treated my mom I could not help feel sorry for him when I heard the news that he was injured in the line of duty, my mind
wishes he died maybe he deserved it but my heart still recall that he is my father after all. I decided to nurse him till he is all better because I could not risk my mom rekindling her love for him. No, I could not allow that to happen.

Dad: “Sindy baby I’m much better now there is no need for you to take care of me I’m a grown man “
Me: “ I rather do it dad than allow my mom to come, I don’t want her to get her hopes high “
Dad was sitting up straight on the bed watching tv in his small open planned apartment that he was renting “ what do you mean? about that “ he asked with his eyebrows forced together

Me: “ I know that you still see me as a kid but I know that you fell out of love with mom a long time ago ., and you beat her up to ease your conscious “

I stood up and attended to the microwave that seeks my attention with its beeping sound I took out a home-cooked meal prepared by mom and served him
Me: “ baba, you taught me a lot of things when you were trying to toughen me up, you always said that I might be a girl but I need to be strong because if I’m not,
people will take advantage of my pretty face “ he smiled recalling the moment when he was teaching me to change the tire of his car

can not do tough stuff but you were too stubborn that I even started treating you like a boy “

He laughed and I smiled

He choked on his food and tried to stand but due to his injured body he cried in vain and just looked at me with questionable eyes, my Farther may be a detective but he such an open book, he lives bread crumbs everywhere I figured that he never loved mom but married her because I showed up, his heart belongs
to someone else and today, I want to know who and I want to know about my half-sister.

Him: “ HOW DO YOU KNOW THIS ??

I stood up handed him a glass of water to drink, since he was coughing unbearably, I help him take a few sips, He finally came down and his breathing was normal now

Him: “are you going to tell your mother ??“ he held my hand and looked at me with pleading eyes,
Me: “ baba I don’t have all the fact and I can not just drag my mom into this, you have broken her too much and if she finds out about this it will kill her, let her pick up her broken peace’s and make sure she never finds out “
