The second we reached the back of the car, Cash dropped the bag he was holding.

"Okay, listen. I don't want to hear "oh, I love her", and "oh, I'd never hurt her". I don't even have to ask you if you love her because I can already see that you do. And I don't need to hear that you'll never hurt her because that's impossible. Whether it's intentional or not, at some point in time, you'll hurt her. You probably won't even know you did, and that's okay. I'm not speaking to you to ask you not to hurt her. This isn't one of those "I'm threatening you so you won't hurt my cousin" speeches. What I'm here to ask you is, what are you going to do about it? When you hurt her, what are you going to do about it? If you love her, what are you going to do about it? If that psycho prick she called a boyfriend comes within ten feet of her again, what are you going to do about it?"

My eyebrows shot up.

"I don't know you, but I do know my cousin and I know what she needs. She needs a man that'll keep her safe and that'll love her unconditionally, just as she is. She needs a man that'll do something when something needs to be done. Whether it's take a bullet for her, or reach on the top shelf for her, she needs it. Three guys too many have either done nothing or done the damage itself, and I can't afford another one to. She won't survive it. She's strong, but she's not superwoman. If my approval means anything to you, if Lilly means anything to you, you'll do something. I don't know what's going on right now. Yet, I know there's a reason she's popped up in Georgia again out of nowhere, and I'm thinking it might be correlated to reason she was fleeing for her life almost three months ago. Whatever it is, just say you'll take action."

"I will, I swear." I answered.

He studied me for a second and then smiled.

"Well, okay. I think that covers everything. You're alright, for now. Let's go back in the car. I'll pull up to an IHOP and get us some food and I'll bombarde you with questions when we get there. It's necessary protocol for new boyfriends so Lillian won't suspect anything." He grinned.

I nodded and we parted to get in the car.

I noticed Lilly was dancing around in her seat when I got in the back seat.

She looked back at me, quizzically, so I plastered on a reassuring smile.

We slowly left the hotel parking lot.

"So how long have you and Connor been together," Cash asked, turning the music down.

Wow, how long have we been together?

It was about a month and a half before.. And as of yesterday night, a day..

But we've been going back and forth a lot..

I furrowed my eyebrows, unsure.

Lilly and I both chuckled.

Cash looked at us.

"It's complicated," Lilly answered.

"Yeah, we've kind of been focused on other things." I continued.

Cash asked if we were hungry and we settled on IHOP for breakfast as he planned.

I looked down at Lilly as we entered the IHOP.

She smiled and I grabbed her hand.

Cash asked the man at the front desk for a booth and he led us to one at the back of the room.

Lilly and I slid into one side, while Cash slid into the other.

We looked over the menus as I made small talk with Cash.
