Chapter 18- Puzzle

"She's WHAT?!" Kai covered my mouth and whispered "You heard what I said...captain of the cheerleading team..." He uncovered my mouth and took out his water bottle to take a sip. Hiro exchanged looks with me and Sora and looked at Kai and said "How did she earn the title "captain" let alone even get on the cheerleading team?!" Kai shrugged and took a pretty big sip out of his water bottle.

Hiro snapped his fingers in front of me and stared at me trying to get me to realize that I was staring at Kai drinking out of a DAMN water bottle. Kai chuckles and said "Janely, you dozed off." I shook my head and said "Oh, yeah, that happens...anyways, how did she even get on the team...?" Kai shrugged and said "I don't know. But, she got on the team. The cheerleading coach immediately titled her as the captain, like, no hesitation. We both had tryouts in the gymnasium so I was able to see everything." Sora ate a chicken nugget and said "Well, did you see what she did while we were playing dodgeball? She wanted you on her team so bad that she basically blackmailed the gym teacher."

Hiro raised an eyebrow and said "Does the coach really give extra credit, cause I think I might need myself some of that." Sora kicked Hiro's leg under the table to which Hiro yelped a little and rubbed his leg. "Ow, Sora. I'm being serious though, there are some days that I forget my gym clothes, tired of running those damn laps before the class actually starts, and times when I just don't feel like it. Sometimes, I just wanna take a nap after those class periods. Especially if we have tests, or even quizzes."

I sighed and said "Gosh, how many people are on the cheerleading team?" Kai shrugged and said "It was a couple for now. The coach rejected a lot of people." I raised an eyebrow "If you were to estimate, about how many students?" Kai counted with his fingers and said "Like...about the entire freshman grade." Sora looked at Kai and said "What?!" Kai nodded his head and said "Even upperclassmen we're getting rejected. There's only like 4 girls on the team including Katniss. They need about 15-20 to be able to continue this sport. If not, they can't have cheerleading this year."

I looked at Kai and said "That's a lot of kids that were rejected..." He nodded his head "Even MY coach didn't reject that many kids! But...it really looked like the coach didn't want to reject those kids. Kind of like she was being ordered to reject certain kids." Hiro clapped his hands and said "Katniss! Had to be! Something is very suspicious about her. She knows like...everything...I mean, we don't have proof that she knows every little detail about everyone, but she definitely knew about the coach, and the way she thinks that you're a threat, Janely." I looked at Hiro with a confused look and said "Me? As a threat?" He nodded his head and slowly Kai and Sora started to agree. Me? As a threat? Towards Katniss? Impossible. I literally can't do shit to save my life.

Hiro said "Didn't she confront you about something?" I nodded my head and said "Yeah...I guess she was thinking of me as a threat in that situation..." Sora nodded his head and said "Well, let's try and put some pieces together. Katniss is the captain of the cheerleading team. Katniss has confronted Janely about a certain topic. She thinks of Janely as a threat to whatever she has planned. She somehow knows things you wouldn't expect. She knows things about the coach, and she probably knows things about teachers, principal, students, maybe even us as well. Things that would be personal, maybe, things you would only tell your friends or maybe even things you wanna keep to yourself."

Kai thought "Yeah...she's an odd one...she's a pretty interesting one as a matter of fact. Her knowing all these things. To definitely come up with a theory, we would need to see her more in action. Maybe her talking to Janely, or exposing more secrets no one else would know." Everyone agreed and we continued to eat.

I perked my head up before we left and said "Maybe she's related to one of the teachers or something. You know how much teachers love to gossip. She probably has one of the teachers as a family member and they just spill all the tea to her when they get home. I know my mom does that to me. Maybe the same goes for her." Hiro thought about it and said "You're on to something, Peanut." I looked at him quickly and said "Peanut?! Who you calling a peanut, pencil?!" "Who you calling a pencil, peanut?!" Kai laughed and ruffled my hair. "Don't get mad, Janely. He didn't mean it."

Hiro glared at me and said "What if I did?" I glared at him back and said "And what if I did too?" Kai wrapped his arms around me from behind and rested his chin on my head. "Don't get mad at him, cutie." I blushed and said "Okay. No more mad." Sora smirked and said "Ooh, what's with the hug?" Kai shrugged and said "Hugs calm me down. So I thought a hug would do the same for her!" Kai smiled and released me from his embrace. To which, I turned around, and nuzzled myself back into his embrace. He laughed and rubbed my head. "You're like a little puppy. I stop petting you for 2 seconds and then you come back for more. Like a clingy little puppy." I nodded my head in agreement.

We all left the McDonald's and started heading in the direction of our homes. Me and Hiro don't live far from each other, so we both live in a pretty close range. Sora lives around 20 blocks away, and I have no idea where Kai lives. It's like he read my mind because he said "I don't live too far away from you guys. I think I live closer to Sora then I do with you and Hiro, but it's still not that far. It's in like a 10 minute driving distance." "Good to know! Now I can go to your house whenever. Just drop your address." I giggled and he smiled down at me.

As we all headed back into our homes, I ran into my room and laid down on my bed just thinking of how Kai hugged me and how I got to eat McDonald's with him!! I squealed and rolled onto my side. I kicked my legs like an excited baby. "He touched my head! He hugged me! Gosh, I'm never washing my hair!! I'm never washing this outfit! I should just never take another shower!" I was kidding by the way.
