Some people would call Bailey connors dramatic for running off. Hell, even she would call herself dramatic. She didn't understand that broken promises could hurt, especially when it happens with the only person she could trust to help her.
she's dealt with broken promises in the past. Being a seventeen year old in Brooklyn living on her own, it's happened a lot. Whether is was her parents infamous promise that they would constantly tell her, we love you, Bailey. We will never leave you no matter what. Their voices sounded in her head.
But little did she know, at the age of thirteen her parents would disappear from her life, leaving no trace of themselves besides a note.
Bailey,
We are so sorry to leave you like this, but we have no other choice. With our financial state, we just can't afford it anymore. We love you and we hope you understand.
Hugs and Kisses,
Mom and Dad.
Bailey didn't keep the letter they left. She became very vulnerable once they left, somehow failing at every attempt due to Steve or Bucky barging into her house.
What a love, Bailey thought to herself, slamming her door shut behind her. The couple of homework sheets she was given today wasn't too hard for her to complete, finishing them within the next hour.
The blonde was always good in school when it came to her grades and academics. She found it as something to keep her mind running and away from things that would harm her.
But now, Bailey sat on her small twin sized bed, holding a bag of ice on her stomach over her new bruises.
Bailey had a handful of bruises and marks along her skin. Some were from herself, majority from school. She always made sure to either hide them, or have a good excuse for them when Bucky or Steve would notice.
And when a teacher at school would notice, they would question if there was trouble at home. Bailey would simply respond by saying no, and that she lived alone.
"Hey, Bailey?" She heard as a soft knock sounded on her bedroom window. Looking over to the window, she saw a worried Bucky sitting on the small fire exit.
Bailey sighed, removing the ice from her stomach, and went to the window. "What, Bucky." She said, trying to sound angry.
Bucky sighed, patting the small spot next to him for her to come and sit in. "I just want to talk." He said.
Bailey took one long look at the brunette, then carefully moved out of the window and sat beside him. "I'm sorry." He finally said, glancing over at the girl. "I promised you and-and I wasn't there."
"Your right." She said, "you don't get how hard it is, buck. One second, I'm totally fine. The next, I'm hiding in an alley way like my life depends on it."
Bucky frowned, placing his arm around her shoulders. "Bailey, I know it's hard, trust me. But do you get how hard it is for Steve and I to know your going through this, knowing there's not really a lot we could actually do?" He said, "Bailey. Look at me." The boy lifted up baileys chin, forcing her to look him in the eyes. "Your the strongest person I know, alright? There's not one person I would put above your level of strength. I know you have it in you to stick up for yourself, but you don't and I don't get why you don't."
"Bucky." Bailey said, tears building up in her eyes and blurring her vision. "If I ever dare to stick up for myself, even more people would hate me. They'd see me as the girl who-who thinks she's all that." She continued to rant in and on. "-and then when it comes to the future, I'm just going to be alone because everyone will hate me!"
Bucky sat there patiently waiting for Bailey to just shut up. "Are you done?" He asked, letting out a small laugh. "You won't be alone. You'll have me and Steve, always. You know that right?"
Bailey nodded but then began to stand back up. "Of course I know that. But your Bucky Barnes, there's no way your going to be alone in the future. And Steve- I don't even know. He could somehow manage to get someone too." She said, climbing back into her room. "Now do me a favor and go do something with yourself. I'm sure you have another date tonight with some girl who won't cause you any worry and is probably the prettiest girl you've seen.."
And with that, Bailey was back in her room and shut the window.
Bucky sat on the fire escape for a second thinking. Did she really think of me like that? He asked himself.
But, Bucky took one last peek into the window, watching as Bailey laid back on her bed with the ice bag on her exposed stomach.
Frowning once more, Bucky finally began to climb down from the fire escape. The only thing that made tonight worse, was that he actually did have a date.
All of the girls wanted a piece of Bucky Barnes. They admired the steel blue eyes of his, along with his manners and simply his appearance.
But Bailey Connors saw him as more than the good looking best friend. She admired his protectiveness, his passion, his ability to calm her down within seconds when she was having an anxiety attack.
But he would never know.
