This is the summer after the twins disappeared

"Chris," I groaned.

"Yes?"

"Fuck!" I yelled out, "fuck you!"

"Well if you insist."

I barely noticed his last comment as I mimicked what he had said when we started this game. "Let's play Mario kart, it'll be fun! I swear we won't do rainbow road Y/n! I'll be nice this time!"

"Hey! It's not my fault the game randomly picked your favorite map."

"Ew no, don't even joke about rainbow road being my favorite."

"Oh come on, It's not that bad!" He pulled his sweatshirt over his head and tossed it onto the dinning table.

"I will be one hundred percent honest right now, I would rather volunteer myself as tribute... then play rainbow road."

"Now that's a bit dramatic."

I huffed in response, wiping the sweat from my forehead. "Why is it so hot in here?"

"The AC is busted."

"Can't you like... file a complaint or something?"

"I have! the apartment owner guy is the worst." Chris had moved out earlier this year, I had been planning to move in with him but...

"I can say right now, I will not be moving in until that is fixed."

"Yeah yeah, I'll get it fixed before you do I promise." He paused for a minute, thinking, "come on let's get out of here. I got a surprise for you."

"Where are we going?"

"Now I may be wrong here but pretty sure that that's the exact opposite of a surprise. I can't tell you dumbass!" He jiggled his keys in his hand, "now, let's go."

"Alright, let me just call my mom real quick. How long will we be out?" He shrugged in response. "Uh hey mom.." I paused glancing over at him. "I won't be home till late, Chris is taking me somewhere."

"Hey mrs L/n!"

I take the phone away from my ear, "uh my mom wants to know if you're going to kill me."

"Yes I am."

I brought the phone back to ear, "he says no." My mom was never around a lot, which means she doesn't know Chris as well as my other family does. It was normal for her to be paranoid, but I could hear her joking tone. "Yes yes, I love you too, bye."

"Nice! Let's get out of here before we burst into flames or whatever." He hurried me out the door. We rushed down the stairs and he quickly unlocked his car. The second it was on I blasted the AC. "Why is it so fucking hot out?!"

I slumped down in the seat and let the air blow on my face. "I don't know, but I don't like it."

"Yeah, at least summer is almost over, it will cool down soon."

"Chris." He glanced at me from the corner of his eyes, watching me read a text on my phone. My eyes flicked to the road. "Chris!" The car lurched forward as someone swerves in front of us at a green light.

"What the fuck man!" He honked the horn at the man who was long gone by now. "Fuck."

My hands were hanging on tightly to the edge of my seat. "What a dick!"

"Well. We just almost died. That's always fun." He hesitated for a moment, "what did you want to say? Before that guy swerved in front of us I mean."
