I follow Mike through the sanitarium, we were both silent for the most part. The only noise between us was grunting and the occasional "ow". If we got out of here alive, I cannot wait to take it easy for a while.
Mike held his hand to his chest, the bandages that covered his wounds were already blood soaked.
It was now that I took in his full form. Before we were either in a rush, getting fingers stuck in bear traps, or almost passing out. But now.. I was a few feet behind him, shivering from the cold. That wasn't the only thing on my mind though, I admired Mikes attire, the muscle shirt really lived up to its name.
"Y/n?" I met Mike's eyes, "are you ok?"
"Huh? Yeah I'm as good as I can be right now." Feeling the heat rush to my face, I knew that he caught me. Embarrassed, I quickly turned my head away from the man.
"Yeah... ok," A smirk made it's way into the serious expression he previously wore. "Whatever you say."
I could feel his gaze on me, we stood there for a second. "We should get going.."
"Yeah, come on." He stood in place and waited for me to catch up. Once I did, we began walking up, sadly, a very long staircase.
We made it about halfway before Mike held out an arm and told me to wait, "did you hear that?"
"Hear what?"
"I don't know, it sounded like.. like a-" there was a clicking sound, "there, that!"
I listened a bit, trying to remember what that sound was. "Paws! When a dog walks on wood floor and their claws hit the wood it makes that sound." Relieved that I could place the sound, i let out a sigh.
The relief quickly faded as I realized what that meant. There was a growl that just confirmed my fear. Wolves.
"Shit! What do we do?" Mike took my hand in his, "They-" the mean bark cut him off, a white wolf jumped from the hole in the wall. We both screamed, tightening our grip on the other's hands.
Quickly... and quite clumsily, Mike and I sprinted up the stairs. Well, Mike sprinted and forced me along with him, not allowing me to fall behind no matter how bad my foot was killing me.
Once we were on the next floor, it was easier to keep up the pace. "Oh f-! Oh fu-! Oh shit... oh shit!" We made a sharp turn into a new hallway, trying to lose the wolf that was quickly gaining on us.
"Mike!" Another scream escaped my lips as the wolf lunged at my legs. I stumbled, but Managed to keep my balance. Mike didn't hesitate, he kept pulling me along.
The wolf jumps at me again, but this time Mike had a plan. "Okay okay okay okay okay okay..." he mumbles after slamming the door behind us. "Fuck fuck fuck fuck... Catch your breath, we have to get the fuck out of here."
"That was insane! How'd you know where we were?"
"What?" To answer his question, I pointed out the window.
"Lucky guess?" Was his answer, he let go of my hand and walked to the window. The chapel was in the next room, "that's him. That's the guy that killed Jess." He pointed out the man that was walking into the next room. I recognized the guy from somewhere, just couldn't put my finger on it.
"Are you sure?"
My question went unanswered, "isn't this a quaint little psycho-crib?"
Something told me he didn't actually know if this was the guy that killed his girlfriend.
"Do we go after him?"
"Yeah.. Yeah yeah we should right?" He sounded as unsure as I did. "Uh, this way?"
We tiredly limped to the edge of the stairs, stopping at the drop off. "Of course the stairs aren't in one piece, because you know what, why would they be?" Sitting on the edge of the step, I breathed deeply, preparing myself for the jump.
Mike however got it over with. He took a deep breath, glanced over the edge, closed his eyes, and jumped. He landed on his feet, wincing slightly from the impact. "Come on, it's not that bad."
The reply slipped from my lips, "as if, I just watched you almost break your leg."
"You trust me right?"
A sign came from my mouth and with a quick nod of my head, I started to prepare for the fall.
Turning around and gripping the ledge, I let myself hang for a second. "I hate this I hate this I hate this I hate this."
"It's not even that high up."
"It's too high! I don't like height.." I mumbled the last part, with a last glance down, I let go. "OW!"
Just my luck, my leg gave out from under me, sending the rest of me tumbling to the ground. Instinctively my hand clutched the injured foot, mumbling ow under my breath.
"Are you okay? Can you walk?"
With a small nod, he helped me to my feet. Well... foot. "Let's go back to the cabin, come on Y/n it will be fun!" Mumbling the words that Chris said to me, "It's been torture. I'm half dead walking around the sanatorium."
"Yeah and I almost lost my fingers. Oh and my girlfriend is dead. But hey, at least we are getting out of this together, right?"
A small smile tugged at my lips, "Right." I took his hand in mine and gave it a squeeze.
"Let's do this." He walked up to the chapel door, inserting the key card and pushing it open. I held onto his arm, standing behind him.
The growl from earlier came again. We both froze in place. A minute passed before Mike pushed the door open all the way.
Bad idea really. The smart plan would have been get the hell out of there.
The white wolf jumped around the corner. Mike stepped in front of me protectively, holding his hand out in front of him. The wolf carefully sniffed the out stretched hand. Mike stayed as still as he could, not wanting to spook the predator.
Slowly, he stepped forward and placed a hand on the wolves fur. The big dog panted happily and laid his head in Mikes hand. "Aw he's just a big sweetheart." I stepped towards the dog, holding my hand out just like Mike did. Although unlike Mike, my hand got a kiss.
"I know that the wolf is cute but we should get going."
I kneeled next to the wolf and gently placed my hand on his fur. "Yeah yeah let me know when you find where we need to go."
A small laugh came from Mike, "yeah, alright."
Sliding down the wall, I was thankful for a chance to sit down. The gashes on my foot was making it hard for me to walk. My hand trembles as I pet the wolf. The bandages stopped the bleeding a bit, but the gash on my ribs still dripped with fresh blood. We didn't want to use the dirty bandages too much on us, sure that they would cause an infection.
"Hey Mike?" I started, watching him walk over to us with a bone in hand. "How about we call him Wolfie?"
"How did you come up with that one?"
Deciding to play along, "Well you see," I explained how I chose the name. "He, is a wolf. But we can't name a wolf wolf. That's like naming a person person. But... personie? That's an acceptable name. So Wolfie..."
Mike couldn't hold it in any longer, "Personie?!"
"You heard me!" Mike shook his head, kneeling next to me and the wolf.
