One year later
I stepped onto the bus, walking down the rows to find a seat, "(Y/n)!" I jumped slightly, not expecting anyone to recognize me. Glancing up, I spot Chris waving at me enthusiastically.
"Hey Chris." I take a seat next to him, he throws an arm around my shoulders.
"Damn, it's great to see you! Why didn't you call? I haven't seen you in ages!"
"Sam and I were with Josh quite a lot, he really needed a friend, you know?" I explained, it was mostly the truth. I also just wanted a break from all of this, just get away for a bit.
"A friend? Are you sure that was his goal?" I rolled my eyes and playfully pushed him. The bus started moving and I starred out the window, thinking about what was going to happen when we get there.
It's going to be weird to be back, I haven't even talked to half of these people since the incident. Poor Beth and Hannah, maybe I should have gone after them, maybe they would still be here and not missing if I did. What are we even going to do? Just pretend it didn't happen, pick up where we left off?
"(y/n), (Y/n)!" Chris shook me, trying to wake me from my sleep. I hadn't even noticed that I had drifted off. Rubbing my eyes, I stretched, the sun was beginning to lower over the horizon and we were the only ones on this bus. "Come on, we are here." I nodded and slowly stood up, picking up my bag as I do so.
"Am I the only one who thinks this is weird? I mean being back here just feels wrong, I have a bad feeling about it." I spilled my thoughts to Chris, I knew that no matter what he would have my back.
"It is a little weird, but hey, the gangs back together. Now not so sure if that's a good thing though, last I heard there was some drama with Mike and Emily."
Chris began to walk to the trail, and I followed close behind. "When is there not though?"
"Shit, the gates busted. We will have to climb over, wait a minute, let me go first to make sure it's stable." He walked over to a rock wall that was nearby.
"Should we leave a note? From what Josh has told me Sam, Mike and Jess are still on their way." He paused and looked back at me before nodding and walking back over.
"You got a piece of paper? And a pen?" I nodded, handing him a torn out piece from my sketchbook and an inking pen.
"Be careful with that, it's expensive." He rolls his eyes and scribbles on the note, securing it to the gate.
"Alright, let's go." He goes to climb the rocks, but slips, falling on his back. "Ow.." He stands up and tried again, this time succeeding. "Come on (y/n). I'll help."
I grab a rock and hoist myself up, placing a foot on another one. Once I was about up Chris reached down and I grabbed his hand. He pulled me up and I caught my breath. Quickly we jumped down and continued walking in the direction of the cable car.
"Look at this view!" I leaned on the fence, looking out over the mountains.
"Is this graffiti?" Chris was inspecting a sign.
"No Chris, it's a novel. Yes it's graffiti dumbass." I smacked the back of his head softly and he chuckled lightly. Chris set his bag down on a bench and decided to explore a bit. I continued to stare out over the beautiful view.
"Pretty, isn't it?"
"Fuck! Mike what the hell?"I was startled by the sudden voice that broke the silence. He laughed and raised his arms in surrender.
"Messing with you is fun!" He laughed at me as I put a hand over my heart.
"You are so not funny!" Fast footsteps could be heard as Chris rounded the corner.
"Are you OK?! I heard a scream..." He trailed off as he noticed Mike standing next to me. His face dropped for a moment, but only a moment. "Oh hey Mike."
"Hey man. Alright, I'm going to head up to the lodge, you two coming?"
"No, I'm gonna wait for Sam." Chris sat down and picked up his phone.
