Addison watches as Joe does his final bow with DNCE, running off the stage and over to her.
"Hi," he smiles, adrenaline pumping through his veins.
She grins. "You're sweaty," she laughs.
"Oh, you don't like sweat?" he asks, going in for a hug.
"No!" she squeals, trying to run away but instead gets wrapped in his arms, feeling the sweat dripping off him. "Ew!"
He laughs, letting go.
She shakes around, trying to get the gross feeling away.
"Come on, we'll go shower."
"I get to shower first," she says, running towards the area.
He laughs, shaking his head as he follows behind.
Once they're both showered and dressed in comfy clothes, the two get into a car and go back to the hotel, picking up food on the way and starting to eat as soon as their hotel room door closes.
"I know this sounds weird because we were so excited to come to Japan but I can't wait to get back to LA," Joe says, chuckling.
"Me too," she grins.
"I know, all the Jonas's together again. That happens almost never," Joe laughs.
"Huh?" she asks, looking over.
"The family thing we have when we get back. Remember? My family planned a little vacation out to LA to spend time all together and get to know you better since we don't see them as often."
"No, babe, we booked a trip to Jersey when we get back to see my family. They're expecting us the day after tomorrow." she says.
Joe's eyebrows furrow and he pauses for a moment before shaking his head. "Babe, no, we never get to see my family. We need to stay with the original plan of spending time with them."
"I would agree if that were the original plan but we made the plan with my family months ago." she says, shifting her weight to one side and crossing her arms over her chest.
Joe scoffs, shaking his head.
"What?" Addison asks.
"Nothing," he says, starting to walk away.
"No, tell me. What?" she says.
"It's just getting a little frustrating that it always has to be exactly the way you want it to be," he says. "I get just about no say in anything having to do with anything anymore and it's a little frustrating."
"Are you trying to say that I'm controlling without saying that I'm controlling?" she asks.
He shrugs. "I guess if that's how you wanna look at it."
She laughs humorlessly. "Wow, so I'm controlling now. I mean if we're gonna talk about that then we can also talk about the fact that you don't want me to work."
"I've never once said I don't want you to work," he says.
"Really? Because I remember numerous times where you've said you just want me to travel with you and always be with you on the road."
"Yeah, because I wanna be with you not because I don't want you to work, Addison. But it's quite clear you'd rather work all the time than spend time with me."
"Oh my God, are you serious?!" she says, looking at him in disbelief. "It's called spending some time apart as well as spending some time together. It's healthy, Joe."
"Healthy, right." he nods, refusing to look at her.
"What?"
"I just find it a little hard to believe that you want to spend time apart so that we can have a healthy relationship, that's all."
"I'm sorry?" she asks, raising her brows.
"You've never been ready for this relationship," he says, looking at her.
She raises her brows higher in disbelief. "Excuse me?"
"You always looked for something to be in the way. When we met it was your past, then your dad who wasn't your dad died and you found out they weren't your family and instead of including me in finding your family or letting me help you, you hid it from me and did it on your own. You don't want to be in this relationship, Addison. It's obvious you're a one woman show and I'm a guest star."
She gulps, nodding. "Wow, so me moving in with you showed you that I don't want to be with you? Me staying in LA for you rather than moving to Jersey and getting to know my family means that I don't want to be with you? I don't know if you understand this Joseph but you are the only thing keeping me in California and if that isn't something that says I love you and I want to be with you then I don't know what the hell you want from me."
"Or maybe you're staying with me because you need some reason to not get close with your family since the last one you had fucked you over." Joe says, staring her in the eye.
Addison's breath hitches in her throat as he brings up the one subject that breaks her down... and he knows it.
"Well, if that's how you feel then fine. I'll leave."
He stays quiet, staring off to the decorated wall across from him rather than at her.
"But Joe, if I leave I'm not coming back. Not to you. Not if you believe I'm using you to face my own reality. Because I may be hardheaded and stubborn but one thing I'm not is someone who lies about intentions or uses someone to run away from problems. I wasn't raised that way. I've been a solo act all my life and finally got the courage to let someone in. I let you in. And you just proved the exact reason I never did... or never should have. So if I leave, I'm gone, Joe."
He continues to stare, not answering.
She nods, walking into the bedroom part of the suite and throwing her things into her suitcase before zipping it up, putting her carry-on on her back and walking towards the door. She stops for a second, considering turning to look at him once more but deciding against it. She lets go of the suitcase handle and unclasps the necklace Joe gave her for her birthday before setting it on the counter next to the door, swinging the door open and leaving.
Her eyes begin to well with tears as she hits the elevator button, silently begging for him to come chase after her. But the elevator doors open, she climbs on and hits the lobby button. Once the doors close, she wipes her tears, goes outside and gets a taxi to the airport, using the last of her savings to buy a one way ticket to Jersey and board the plane.
Once landing, Addison gets an Uber to take her to her parents home, walking up to the front door and knocking.
The door opens and her mother looks surprised. "Hi honey! We weren't expecting you until tomorrow! Where's Joe?"
Addison gulps, trying to keep down tears. "He's uh, not coming."
Her mother raises her brows. "Oh?"
"Um, I know this is a lot to ask but is there any way I could stay here for a while? Until I find out where else to go?" she says, her eyes welling up.
"Oh, honey," Jenna says, giving her a sympathetic look. "Of course. You can stay as long as you need to."
Addison nods, refusing to make eye contact. "Thanks."
"Come on, come in," Jenna says, moving to the side before leading her upstairs. "This can be your room for as long as you need it."
Addison forces a grin, thanking her mother yet again before asking for a few moments alone.
"Of course, just come downstairs whenever you're ready." she says, leaving Addison's room and shutting the door.
Addison waits until she can no longer hear footsteps before choking tears pouring down her face as she slowly falls to the ground, bringing her knees to her chest and finally letting go.
That was it. They were over.
